Muckity mucks are in the building today, so I need to focus on them instead of working. I'll try to touch base later today.

You are actually working *in an office building* at this point?

Wow!

I literally had a dream earlier this morning about visiting my physical office, which I have not seen since March 15.

So, the city of Seattle has just hired a (supposedly) ex-pimp at a hefty salary to help it develop "policing alternatives."

First thing they're going to is install human-traffic lights, with "F*ck/Don't F*ck" signs.

The second line is a joke.  As for the first, Seattle Hires Convicted Pimp for $150,000 to Consult on Police Reform.

Some of the computers I manage require that I be physically present. And my son, with his brain damage, literally cannot understand that Mom is home working and isn't available to read or play.

Ah, but note that the article includes the standard line "community engagement." Clearly he was already involved in community engagement in his former profession. Ahem. Is that what we should expect going forward?

I doubt he believed in long engagements, since turnover is what makes money in the trafficking trade.

Well, it was quite a trick to get her to hire him in the first place.  But don't forget the Mayor has the labia movement behind her.

Just wanted to be sure.  At this point in this year, it's hard to tell---heck, I've even mistaken Babylon Bee headlines for actual ones.

He's also an experienced "people manager", don't overlook that.

Scrolling down....

Reporter: Win, lose or draw in this election. Will you commit, here today, for a peaceful transferal of power after the election? There’s been rioting in many cities across this country. Would you commit to making sure that there is a peaceful transferal of power after the election?

Trump: Well, we’re going to have to see what happens. You know that I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots and the ballots are a disaster and —

Proper answer: Do you in the media and the democrats agree to report truthfully and not commit election fraud?

I'm about to throw furniture.

In my gigantic database of all the witch trials, one column is dedicated to references to the documents concerning each case.  I entered in the catalog numbers.  Now, for some reason, Excel is replacing those with random sequences of numbers.  Except they're not completely random. A typical pattern is 446, 464, or 606, 060  or 616, 161 or 456, 565  etc.  I have no idea where the numbers are coming from or how to stop it.

I'm thinking I just have to delete the entire column and start from scratch.  Whichever, I've lost three months' work.

Obviously, your work has been cursed.

Reminds me, I should keep periodic backups so I don't lose too much work.

I have backups, but all of them have the same weird problem.  It's as if a script is in there somewhere, but I can't find it.

You can look for macros in Excel. View, Macros (far right). See if there is something there.

It is possible Excel got corrupted, too. Do a repair installation of Office. Control panel, Programs and Features.  Find office (might be called Microsoft 365) and select it. Click Change in the tabs over the programs. That will let you select a quick repair or online repair.

Also, you can check your disk for errors (it won't find any, normally, but might silently correct something). Windows explorer, this PC. Click once on the drive to select it, then right-click and Properties. Tools tab, and click on Check.

Or  maybe you need a good anti-hex spell./

Firefox has as its main page a list of interesting articles. One is "The Best (and Worst) Ways to Spot a Liar.

From the BBC. I wonder if it will say anything about those working for the Beeb being liars if they discuss Israel?

Because binary requires writing out so many bits, programmers use base 16, or hexadecimal, or hex for short.

It is easy to convert between binary, base 2, and any other base that is a power of 2, like 16

00000
00011
00102
00113
10019
1010A
1011B
1100C
1101D
1110E

And so on. Thus, years ago, to make it clear memory hadn't been written into, when using a debug version of the libraries, Microsoft initialized it to 1011 1010 1010 1101 1111 0000 0000 1101

In hex, that is BAADF00D
