Sigh. PIMF.

The strategist in question, David Shor, worked on Barack Obama's 2012 campaign. He notes what is evident to all of us--while Democrats talk about reaching out to minorities of all backgrounds, they are really the party of educated whites. Minorities are going Republican. But instead of changing their tune and looking at what voters want, he doubles down on the stupid, saying "Now, how we should campaign and what we should do once in office are different questions." Clearly he believes Democrats should continue to lie about what they will do and doesn't even consider how that might be interpreted by voters.

Good morning.  So, early this morning I had the classic dream of there's a paper due that I was supposed to be working on, and completely forgot about; in this case, it was a research paper regarding rabies in dogs, and my thesis advisor keeps calling me to ask how progress is going on the paper, and by the way why haven't we even met by now?  Added to this were the factors that 1) I've gone back to participate once again in the volunteer program in Peru that (in real life) I did back when I was 22, but I realize I have no idea why I'm doing this, nor how I will continued to have gainful employment having suddenly taken at least a year off from work to do this; and 2) I've just taken delivery of an M60 machinegun, but realize I've not filled out any sort of paperwork for a Federal Class III license or anything of the sort, and I'm thinking, uh-oh, that could be a problem.

Well that's a lot of anxiety for one dream.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I did some reading and gardening. It was a nice break.

I always have the dreams that I haven't done any of the grading and the students are on the brink of rioting.

I thought in this day and age that if you didn't have the grading done five minutes after class the students were already rioting.

If they're merely "on the brink",  you're doing well by contemporary campus standards.

Well, I was pleased to have the machinegun, anyway.

They're out there, comrade!  Lurking, lying in wait, they could strike at any moment!  We simply MUST double the Praetorian Guard immediately!

I recall that my very last grade for a class in law school,  I didn't know it until I pulled the final transcript out of the envelope containing my diploma at the graduation ceremony.  (I was also very pleased, because it was an "A", and this was from a graduate-level law class, by two profs who were notoriously tough graders; I was one of two As awarded that year, in a class of about 50 people - yay, me.  Well, yay me, at the time.)

You clearly did well in the class and earned that A. So you deserve the "yay."

This also brought home to me how seemingly random law school grading was.  I thought I'd done fairly poorly on the exam - just had a bad "test day", so to speak, I felt like I was scrambling to come up with the mini-essay answers (the course was in International Financial Law).  In contrast, the previous year I'd taken a class in Federal Civil Rights law, and felt like I aced the final... and it turned out ot be one of my lowest grades in law school.

In college, I felt I could predict with reasonable accuracy how I did on any given exam; not so much in law school; and that seemed to be a generally-shared experience.  From this, some wag came up with the "staircase" theory of how law profs grade exams; they stand at the top of a staircase with all the completed exam "blue books" in a box, and toss the contents down the stairs.  The exams that land at the top get an A, those a little further down a B, etcetera.

Thought for the day: If Sonny Corleone had just gotten EZPass, he'd still be alive today.

I had to do a search to figure out this was a Godfather reference. I've never seen that movie.

Somewhere there is a planet the surface of which is covered miles deep, like a glacier, with unmatched socks.

"Unmatched" in the sense of not having mates, or "unmatched" because they are utterly superb?

They view themselves as unmatched in that they have no peers, so both.

I'm honored.  (And it's original, as far as I know... although I'm guessing someone else, somewhere must have thought of it, somewhen.)
