Fancy breakfast this morning. Good morning, campers. Response to OR and buzz in the Frontier.

I don't know about anyone else, but as we emerge from the insanity of this last year, it seems the idea of simple politeness has been completely eliminated from society. I crossed paths with someone at my company yesterday, and I just wanted to briefly chat and ask how she was doing. She said, "Hi. Bye." and ran off. That was it. No interest to be polite at all.

I'm pretty introverted, although I can play an extrovert if I have to. So while I have loved not having to deal with as many people in person, I'm still old-school enough to think that general politeness would require at least an attempt at being civil. Silly me.

And now for something completely different--using microbes to clean Michaelangelo's works.

I think people have gotten used to the idea you can't spend time chatting or you could get COVID. The fearmongering of the MSM and government didn't help.

Let's see...the government is going after the Sacklers and Purdue Pharma for "the opioid epidemic," i.e., their production and promotion and sale of a legal product that was administered by legitimate doctors, yet they've left the border wide open for drug cartels to bring in illegal and non-quality-controlled opioids by the trailerful.

Can someone explain this to me?

I may earn this tinfoil hat, but I really do think there's some justification to the thought that the government didn't want people talking to each other leading up to the election. The claim of being in the middle of a pandemic (questionable, but I was willing to take this at face value last year) and trying to get people to calm down (and their rhetoric did anything but do that) and then take away people's first amendment rights to churches as a place of comfort? In the eyes of reason, that makes absolutely no sense. In the eyes of leftism, that is completely rational.

Today the Squire turns six. Yesterday we had a "small" party for him with all local family over to have grilled burgers and giving of presents and cake. Was a good day and he was ecstatic. School is officially closed for in person learning now until September, and all of us here in the keep are loathing the online learning. So boring and so very repetitive.

That is crazy, yes. The MSM claims that the legal drugs caused a lot of people to get addicted to opioids and then turn to illegal ones, but I have indirectly heard that the actual addicts don't say that; they admit it is the illegal ones that are the problem.

Also, it is MUCH harder to get strong pain medication for those who do need it.

However, there is evidence that even the legal ones could cause addiction and the pharmaceutical companies paid researchers to write papers that they did not. But I believe that a short use of them is not the problem (heroin addicts say you don't get addicted right away), long term use is a problem.

I find it interesting that the Left, which is yammering up one side of the street and down the other about the Evils of Opioids, has worked so hard to obscure the fact that George Floyd actually died from a self-administered opioid (fentanyl) overdose.  Of course, the importance of the Floyd Narrative was to justify attacks on police and to further the 2020 riots, so they had to downplay the Evils of Opioids aspect.

A lot of fentanyl comes from China; the Dems are in bed with China, which is trying to destroy the US, so this does make sense.

Happy birthday to the Squire! Hard to believe he's six already.

When does school let out for the summer? Down here, it's usually the Friday before Memorial Day because they start in mid-August. It's later up North - New Jersey,  for example, starts after Labor Day and ends around the third week of June.

Early this morning I had a dream that I was in a commercial airliner crash, the airliner was having to land in a sort of giant parking garage and it did not go well. I got out just as everything was starting to catch fire, then felt guilty that I had not done more to help other people in the plane. Then, the next thing I know, I was calmly having dinner with a colleague (Who I have not actually seen in over a year, and rarely think about in real life).  At one point I asked her where she went to college, she replied that she was not sure and would have to ask "Alexa".

I'm sure it will be able to run on SAF, but that doesn't mean that is what will be used.

A lot of this is due to the synthetic fuel technology that has been developed over the past several years, not so much the engines themselves, as the fuels have been developed to run in current engines.

JCM 6/3/2021 9:36:17 AM

I believe they have to do a lot more processing on SAF to bring it up to the energy density of Jet-A, one of the requirements for running the stuff.

Any gains of sustainability are washed away in the extra processing.

As in growing the plants that get processed, and the processing, uses more energy than the fuel produces, like ethanol from corn.

It is all a scam, yes.

Which is why this will have to be taxpayer- subsidized, of course...

And then the ticket price will still be in the deep-four or perhaps five-figures.  So we'll have taxpayer-subsidized supersonic transport for rich people.  Again.

I hope I'm wrong about this (or at least, that this thing then scales up quickly).

My favorite high speed rail moment was when I came across a article describing how CA was negotiating track usage for their High Speed Rail (HSR).

I did a full stop.... HSR to be HSR requires dedicated unshared track. You cannot have HSR sharing track with freight. You can't have level crossings with HSR.

By negotiating track usage they were admitting it was not HSR.
