I'm on the email prayer list for my church. A member is a family friend of one of the Highland Park victims, a woman named Jacki. If you feel so inclined, prayer for her husband Bruce and daughter Leah would be much appreciated.

I had an interesting conversation with a relative last night, who is a teacher at a public middle school in NY state.

He said, basically; summer could not come soon enough.

After a year and a half of "virtual learning",  the kids, generally speaking are 1) unteachable and 2) ungovernable.  He's been teaching since the late 1980s, and has never seen anything like it.  And mind you, he's teaching at a very "normal America" suburban school; not inner-city, nor super-"woke".

He also mentioned a phenomenon that visiting former students related to him about the town's high school.  It, too, is out of control; and in an inversion of the classic high school social hierarchy, it's the freshmen who rule the roost; simply because... they're the craziest.

The "cost" side of the lockdowns is incalculable, and we'll be dealing with the damage for many, many years.

Absolutely. They must be so devastated.

It's strange how a tragedy half a continent away can have a local connection.

Well, actually, it's not, given that the most distant relationship you can have with another person on the planet is separated by no more than 6 hops between friends. Count in our more mobile society and that number shrinks rapidly.

Just found out a friend of mine is losing his eye tomorrow.

He had surgery on it about two years ago, and it never healed well.  He had to go back into the hospital recently when it became infected, but apparently they could not save it.

Me, too.  Mind you, he's super-vegan, and very suspicious of "regular" medicine.  It was my impression when he went for his first treatments that he'd made a mistake in selecting some sort of organic, alternate-medicine type of doctor, but that was not my business to dispute.  And now that things have gotten so bad, I'm not about to remind him of/reproach him for his original choice.  I merely look on this outcome as a terrible tragedy.

Joe Biden: America is a nation that can be defined in a single word.

And then, well... Joe happens.

That was included in the first draft of the Declaration of Independence.  True story.

Considering how many cops these days are prosecuted for doing their jobs, I understand why he asked. The fact that he felt he needed to, and that the answer was no, is an atrocity.
