Good morning, and happy day before the night before the day before the night before Thanksgiving.

I stayed up a little too late last night watching this movie, but I thought it was a fairly good one:

it is an apparently reasonably accurate depiction of the 1980 Iranian embassy hostage crisis in London. 

One thing I found interesting was the kit used by the SIS at the time for this sort of operation. The MP5 sub machine gun was already the weapon of choice; browning hi power sidearms; this very bulky looking body armor, I’m guessing Kevlar was not a thing quite yet; no helmets, which I find odd; and when they went in, they wore hoods that they pulled up tightly around their heads, which I find completely perplexing.

Thought for the day, via another poster at Insty: 

Indiana Jones is actually the villain in “Raiders of the lost Ark“. He should have been doing everything in his power to get the ark of the covenant to Hitler as quickly as possible.  Then, Hitler and his inner circle would’ve opened it, it would have killed them all, no, World War II, no holocaust.

Cute idea, but it's based on the notion that whoever has mere possession of the Ark thereby "has God on their side," and would therefore be invincible.  That is the presumption that drives both sides' efforts to acquire it.

The fact that the Divinity turns on, and destroys, those who possess it---the Nazis---gives the lie to the McGuffin that drives the entire movie, and makes it more curious still that the areligious Jones knows enough to tell his co-captive to "not look" when the Ark is opened.

well, I think you are actually agreeing with me. Jones should have known better. He should have known that the ark of the covenant would actually destroy the Nazis.

of course, this idea would also have made it a short and boring story.

Similar to my oft repeated observation that Gandalf could have saved everyone a lot of trouble by just asking his giant eagle friends to pick up the Ring and drop it in Mount doom.

Recently I got a LinkedIn message for what looks like a legit job at a legit company, but the person identified itself as a "Certified Diversity Recruiter".

What's worse, is that the individual did not tell me the proper pronouns! How can it be a certified diversity recruiter and not know about using the correct pronouns?

I have no pronouns.  I do not want my nouns to forfeit their amateur status.

I'll be with my daugueter, cousins, my sis, etc.  We will also be with at least two members of the United States Marine Corps.from Camp Pendlton and It will be fun.  When my cousin first invited the Marines from this year,  the command didn't want to send them because of Covid but changed their minds.  My cousin has done this multiple times and they'll enjoy the day.  My cousin's wife and sister cook breatfast,   lunch and everything for them.
