SEATTLE — In the closely contested Seattle mayoral race, where challenger Katie Wilson holds a narrow 91-vote lead over incumbent Bruce Harrell, more than 1,700 ballots have been flagged for signature challenges.
Reply to JCM in 8 & 9: So? ... It's the ordinary culture -- left and right -- center too as of the past few years.
It's what got The Donald into the White House in 2016 (And likewise-celebrity fluff-ball Boris Johnson into #10.)
It's here too. Comments post "news" links going to social media. Today's news agencies aren't even what they were 40 years ago, and a large majority of the Web's political-emotion-influencing "TRVTH" sites are as shallow as a film of dried mouse pee.
"Culture" is it. How things are done. Emotional influences (yes, that.) How thinking is performed.
Today, here, is far different from 20 years ago on LGF.

Find someone who was "in country", who was shot at, in combat missions.
We have a culture today where influencers tout and posture -- even the "War" President (who dodged the draft three months after I got my honorable after a six year enlistment, two combat cruises on Yankee Station but I was never shot at.
Hegseth is a Henry VIII codpiece. That's all he is. Ball-less fraud. That encompasses much of today's America.
I have a copy of a book titled "Chesty", and also another titled "Fortunate Son" (autobiography by Lewis B. Puller Jr., the son of the first.) Today's America hasn't the cojones to read either. As a too-broad generalization, we are a nation of Donald Trumps.

(grin) ... Indeed.
(seriously) Also for a fellow who was a year behind me at CLHS. Dave Battle. He was the senior NCO in the company of Marines who were just waking up at the Beirut airport in 1983.
