Actually, there's quite a lot of similarity.  Lovecraft writes about the Deep Old Ones, who have tentacles.  The news is all about the Deep State Old Ones, who have their tentacles into everything.

Good morning from chilly, dreary Atlanta. Now that it's above freezing, I'm enjoying the weather.

I have another phone interview this morning. I seem to have no trouble getting to the phone or in-person stage, so I must be doing something wrong in the interview. Probably talking too much, so I've been trying to trim my responses to a manageable length. The position is Learning and Development Manager - I've never been a manager, but I've done everything in the job description except manage a budget, and I see no reason I can't do that too. Wish me luck!

I have a GREAT IDEA!

'Squad' member seeks to ban life sentences, allow transgender inmates to choose their prisons

She also wants inmates to vote.

Oh! Oh! I know! I know! lets give inmates 2nd Amendment rights!

(that'll solve prison overcrowding real quick!)

That's great! I remember you saying your new job wasn't quite what you expected it to be.

I spent about two hours on the phone with my ex last night doing interview prep. He's a project manager and has been on more interviews than anyone I know. He walked me through PM jargon and the PMLC, and gave me good questions to ask about budgeting that make me sound like I know what I'm doing, LOL. Aside from being knowledgeable about this stuff, he's very encouraging. He thinks I have natural leadership skills.

Doppel, I saw your post yesterday about the Dem corruption in Ukraine and how it all connects to Romney, Biden, Pelosi, etc. It explains the fevered vitriol about Trump's desire to look into corruption in Ukraine so much better than anything else I've seen.

That's what I thought. I didn't delve into the supporting documents, but we do know that Hunter Biden, John Kerry Jr., Kerry's stepson Heinz, and now one of Romney's offspring are or were involved with Ukraine one way or another. My next question is whether Skippy Schifff is also on the take, or if he's purely on an egotistical power trip.

Yeah, he's a tougher read. Given how much he has lied so far, it could simply be animus the size of Alaska. Pelosi had been so unwilling to go through with impeachment, but then she apparently decided to go through with it. Well, I shouldn't say that; the rules the Dems set up in the House made it clear back in January that they wanted to do impeachment all the way back then. I think Pelosi was just acting, trying to look statesmanlike while being a vicious crone underneath.

How many times has everyone said, whatever the Dems accuse you of, they are already guilty of doing? It's almost funny to see it happen before my eyes. Almost.

Then extra good thoughts to JCM. I'm going to have to buy more ingredients for s'mores to increase my burnt offerings.

According to Kimberly Strassel, all of this has hardened the division between Democrats and Republicans.  There is, however, 9-11% (depending on the poll) that is in play.  And that group trends towards opposing impeachment.  As Strassel put it, they are looking at the Schiff Show and seeing nothing more than politics as usual -- gransdstanding by Democrats over issues that even the experts find pedantic and dull.  The Dems are not (it seems) going to pull anyone to their side who isn't already there and appear likely to alienate the middle.

As Ace of Spades puts it (link below), the take-aways so far from the Dems in this Schiff Show is:

"The president needs to prove his innocence.

"Surprisingly, hearsay evidence is actually better than direct, first-hand evidence.

"The purpose of impeaching Trump is to make sure he does not get re-elected. The Democrats are openly admitting this. See also here.

"Also, President Trump is being impeached because he tried to 'wrest control' of U.S. foreign policy from 'seasoned diplomats.' (see the second item under the fold). Which is weird, you know, because diplomats, no matter how 'seasoned', are supposed to follow policy, not set it.

I read that Pelosi started using the word bribery because it tested better in a focus group than quid pro quo. I doubt their constituency could define either one.

I agree with your #14. There's still a group that dislikes Trump and espouses leftist principles but aren't crazy and have some respect for the rule of law. They aren't going to start wearing MAGA hats, but they might stay home in 2020.

The whole "witness tampering" nonsense is a sign of desperation.  Their opening witnesses were a gigantic "who cares" and today's testimony is not helping them and could, if things continue, hurt them.  WSJ says that the witnesses scheduled for Monday will be the end.

Perhaps it's time for a career change.  I could move to Washington, DC and open up a pub called the Crying Wolf, catering specifically to Democrats.

We'd feature Maxine Waters' new fruit-flavored malt liquor, "ImPeach 45," on tap.

My favorite thing about this whole travesty is the Democrats' insistence that the corrupt time-serving career bureaucrats they are relying on could not possibly be distorting the truth, because as corrupt time-serving career bureaucrats they are the gold standard of government honesty.

Outstanding! It sounds like this job is more in line with what you're looking for.

I thought my interview was absolutely dreadful. It seemed whatever she asked me about, I didn't know or I completely misunderstood the question. Some of it was just dumb, like name your three best qualities. Basically, I think I came across as a little unfocused. She still wanted me to make a minor formatting change to my resume for her to submit to the hiring manager. I also had to write answers to 3 or 4 of the items in the job description. I'm not all that worried because the pay is substantially less then I was making, and frankly shameful by market standards. I would take it to gain management experience, but I'd be just as happy in a non-management role that pays better.

Role

Reply to doppelganglander in 27:

It's a "librarian" role, not so much layout. But I have experience with that.

A "librarian" creates and maintains the "library" of parts used in designs.

The library needs to be in place before work on any designs for the project can begin.
