Morning, campers. Early day for me; I had to take the car in for some warranty service.

Cute kitty!

I have to go downtown today. I'm putting it off until it warms up a bit - it's about 30 degrees right now, but going up to the mid-50s.

*shiver* Currently -20 out there. Have to drive to the big city this afternoon and I am thankful that there's no snow in the forecast. Yesterday there was a big pile up on the route I take. Bright side I have a week to myself and the lovely wife. Mind you we are both working in retail hell right now.

Will Squire be with his mom all week? On my end, I’m doing my “me time“ right now in NYC and environs, I pick up the little guy on Sunday and then he’s with me all next week, which will be nice but I’m still not sure of how to fill the hours. Will do opening presents at his mom’s, Tuesday, Christmas dinner along with his mom on Wednesday and opening presents at my place, other than that I’ve got a few ideas of things to see around town but I still need to work out the whole plan.

Fat Kitteh kept snuggling up to my legs last night, gradually pushing me further over in the bed until when I woke up this morning, my head was on one corner and my feet at the other.

I don’t know if you all saw this from yesterday evening, but it’s hilarious, apparently authentic but too good to check:

That's a great old song. Actually, I'm just picking up a library book.

Well, I am in downtown Manhattan right now and have to head to the shopping frenzy to find something for mom and sister (Before getting on a train to go see them around mid day; found stuff for Dad last night). So the song works for me, too.

Had I but known you'd be in town, I could have saved myself some postage; it surely would have taken about as much time to get into Manhattan as it took to stand in line at the post office.

Anyway, sent you an email update; one package due to arrive today, the other supposedly Monday.

Yeah, it's her year for Christmas. Works out for us too. I will be working night shifts Starting Sunday at 11:30pm into Christmas Eve. Wife is going through pointsetta hell in her department. One less distraction running around is a good thing. Way my schedule works I can pick him up next Friday with no worries on my part.

Right, and it's off to work I go. See you folks later on this weekend I think. Maybe.

Well, your loss is my gain, as it probably would have been awkward for me to wrestle those items onto Amtrak tomorrow along with other assorted Christmas gifts for the little guy. Thank you again, and please, again, let me reimburse you for the postage cost.

If an old parent/ grandparent can offer a tip- DON'T try to fill every hour with excitement. It's OK for the two of you to just play a game together or even sit side by side each reading a book of your own. Let the little guy develop the resources to live inside his own head in serenity.

(Intrusive ole busybody sermon is hereby done.)

Oh, for sure.  I’m just looking for maybe 2-3 Christmasy activities for the week.

I plan to spend copious amounts of time just reading over the holidays. Win win, in my opinion.

Heh!  There is a pizza joint around the corner that still has "Freedom Fries" on the menu.

I miss when I used to take the train home from Ann Arbor.  Get a six pack and chill.  Always something exciting about coming into the city on the train.

In this case, headed the other way, to the ‘burbs.

I'd do both on that trip -- arrive at Union Station, change trains, and then head out to the 'burbs.
