Brrrrrrr

NPR was yapping again this morning about "private prisons."  Well, not at length---it was just something they threw into some other plaint about something else---I can't remember if it was about "immigration" (i.e., detaining illegals), or about "disproportionate impact" of the criminal justice system on criminals, who are, of course, "of color."

Anyway, I've started to notice them tossing in disparaging remarks about "private prisons" as asides whenever they can, the way they casually toss in mentions of "climate change" whenever possible.

Why are "private prisons" such a popular Leftist bugaboo?

Because someone, somewhere, is making a profit on those poor disadvantaged yoots. I swear, that's all it is. Anyone who actually makes money is considered evil, capitalist (which is just like Hitler).

Morning, campers. 17ºF at my house this morning. I know it's much worse where Kenneth and Phil are, but Lucius had it right--brrrr indeed.

By the way, did people by chance see the wildly Jew-hating outburst by some black woman on the New Jersey Board of Education, who managed to conflate the evil of Jews actually having the temerity to seek to buy property in Jersey City with rabbis stealing and selling people's organs?

Heh.  This sounds like the sort of initiative Governor William J.Le Petomane could get behind.

I'd say vx's answer is one possibility; "Because they aren't paying the appropriate protection money to the Democratic Party" is another.

Yes, there was a post at Instapundit.

Guess that party, kids!

I can't speak to other states, but in Kalifornia the prison guards' union is a very powerful factor in the goobernatorial elections. Moonbeam had them solidly in his pocket. As an example, they go on the clock when they park in the prison parking lot and thus get paid for however long it takes them to saunter or waddle in and actually start, you know, guarding prisoners and stuff. Private prisons would presumably not have to use union guards- BIG savings in labor cost.

Been busy for some while, but yesterday got the results of latest checkup- no signs of active cancer. Thanks all for the prayers etc.

Fantastic news! I'll keep praying that there's no recurrence. I hope Mrs. revo is also doing well.

So do I. Last time he posted, he seemed to be enjoying retirement quite a bit.

She has been battling the flu- we both had the shots, but she has had a low fever, cough, and general miserableness. I've had a very mild touch of it, maybe just a cold, and probably exacerbated by anxiety about my tests.

As for turn- we spoke a couple of weeks ago. He is fine physically, but seemed somewhat stressed. It can be hard to tell with turn, though.

And on that, I'm off to the monthly book club meeting. This month's book was a Debbie McComber romance- sort of a hard copy chick-flick. I'd rather stay home, but then I'd feel like I read the dadgum book for nothin!!!

Excellent news indeed. Especially at this time of the year. Let's hope it's a permanent thing.

I love my wife. Was scrolling on FB when I saw a "sword" for sale. Over $100 and beautiful hand grip with damascus steel blade. Called her in and said I want. Her response? "Go for it". She thought it was gorgeous as well. Unfortunately I won't be able to get it until the new years since it's now on back order.

Reply to PaladinPhil in 23:  Phil, If you can find a show called 'Forged In Fire' (here I believe it's on the History channel) they have a starting group of 4 metal workers make blades to various types using various techniques. They eliminate 1 each round and then the last two go home to their own forges to make their version of 'An Iconic Blade From History". They have 4 or 5 days to do that, then return for head to head competition in various tests. Winner gets 10,000 USD. If you can find it you would probably enjoy it. I have learned a lot from it.
