The wise and somewhat mysterious black person leads the white person to some sort of epiphany or reveals a secret that ensures the white person's success. The Legend of Bagger Vance is another example.

Never saw "Bagger Vance," but I seem to recall a lot of mention of "Magic Negro" when it came out.  I was kind of amused that the titles of the two I mentioned were so...similar.

Good Morning!

I suppose that you all saw the peaceful protests in Seattle on the news last night.

Fun Times.

The usual peaceful protest things happened. They smashed a Starbucks and set fire to it.  There were apartments overhead so they had to be evacuated. The fire was put out fairly quickly.

the other fire, at the construction site for the new youth detention center was not put out until after the contractor’s portable buildings were total losses.

Lots of smashed windows.

Lots of smashed property values

Probably more peaceful protesting will happen tonight.

The weather is nice and the city will do the absolute minimal to discourage the rioters. I suspect, because it would match the previous pattern, that everyone that was arrested last night is already back on the street with no real worry of prosecution since the city attorneys have been refusing to prosecute anyone.

I don’t know how Seattle evades a real estate crash at this point.

Black Lives Matter! Social justice! That’s all you need to know. Pay no attention to the Molotov cocktail behind the curtain.

See, this is how they'll have to defund the police. No money.

A helpful list from Wikipedia. I was trying to remember the Oracle from The Matrix last night. Morpheus is also on the list.

I think that CV19 and the rioters are destroying the big cities, particularly the ones run by Democrats.

Most office work can be done anywhere in the country and can even be done remotely, in satellite offices or from home.

The traffic, parking, homelessness, and lack of security in the big cities was bad before this. With the lockdowns and remote work from home advances, the “need” for the big city is diminishing

imam so glad that I moved out of King county 20 years ago into a small town on the other side of the Sound.

It is nice here. Boring, but very nice.

i have recently been asked about doing a Seattle delivery and I turned it down.

I will consider any location east of lake Washington, but not the west.  The people on the east side of the lake are civilized. Snooty, but civilized. The west side of the lake is devolving into a war zone with drug gangs shooting things up one day and Antifa thugs burning things down the next.

Covid is probably taking a bigger toll on Boston than riots. I don't know why it has largely (but not completely) spared the rioting, since it has a leftist mayor, city council, and DA.

However, the black community leadership is largely sane (somewhat to the left, but they realize getting rid of the gangs is better than getting rid of the police), and the police commissioner is black and also a real cop. He has good relations with the black community, and not so good relations with the black DA, as he wants people arrested to stay locked up and she doesn't.

I think the main thing this latest Windows update did was ensure that everything run even slower.

It took forever to update, that's for sure. I did a couple of hours of work in Word and Excel and didn't notice any unusual slowness.

All the feature updates take forever. I start them before going to bed, and sometimes, they aren't done in the morning.

I didn't notice the one system that let me upgrade it run slow, though.

If the system has a disk rather than a solid-state drive, each update does make it run slower. The problem is, updates patch files, causing them to be fragmented, and Windows defragmenter runs while the system is up, so it can't defragment system files. (Fragmented files mean they are not in a contiguous location on disk, and the mechanical motion of the disk and disk heads is slow. Solid state drives do not have that problem. And files that are open can't be defragmented, because of the way reading/writing files and virtual memory (for program files) works. Technical details upon request, should anyone want a basic overview of file systems and virtual memory.

Nor is it about drugs, like the Dead song. At least not explicitly; who knows what the dancers have been taking.
