I spent the day figuring out how to do some work in the new system based on the old one, and it takes a while to figure out how a distributed system works, with communication between different programs.

So I'm going to have all my kids together on Thanksgiving for the first time in five years. I invited their dad for dinner and arranged for my boyfriend to come to dinner on Friday instead (the girls have met him but my son and his family have not). The BF doesn't care, as he's not big on holidays, and I thought it would be nice for the kids to have us all together, as my ex and I generally get along well. Now my ex is sulking because he wants to have time with them without me on Friday. Saturday isn't good enough, Wednesday isn't good enough, it has to be Friday. I swear, it doesn't matter how I try to arrange things, someone's going to get their knickers in a twist.
