Just before all this stuff happened in Chicago -- and as a native seeing my city destroyed in this way is painful -- I had been reading some of my old mentor's work.  His class on primate behavior, along with later courses I had in human evolution, changed forever my understanding of human beings as a species.  I had just read his observations on how easy it is under stress for humans to abandon the self-control learned over millions of years of social interactions and to descend into the worst kind of savagery.  In the primate behavior course we spent about a third of our time watching raw, unedited footage of chimpanzees in the wild.  Much of the behavior I've seen in these riots resembles chimps --- our closest relatives -- at their worst.  The veneer of civilization is extremely thin but of immeasurable value.

I had been hoping for some serious discussion on Kamala Harris.

From the viewpoint of getting Trump re-elected, bad.

From the viewpoint that the Dems might win, good.

She is from the saner side of the Democrat party, which isn't saying much. She'd be a better president than Obama, which is also faint praise.

I note J Street did NOT endorse her.

But she isn't going to change my mind about voting for Trump.

Also, Trump should be careful attacking her. She could easily get sympathy from the kind of attacks Trump likes (and has started on).

As we have seen not even 100 years ago, in a very sophisticated European country, and I fear for the same in the US.

Kamala Harris has a lousy record as a DA, as an AG, and as a presidential candidate.  She has the charm of a dead rattlesnake, and was roundly rejected by Democrat voters in the primaries.  So, are they going to turn out eagerly to elect her Vice President Joe Biden's early successor?  I don't see it.  Her reputation as someone who slept her way into politics means she does bring a reputation of vice to "Vice President," but is being a charmless slut-harpy a ticket to victory?  Not unless the Democrats' voterfraud is totally off the charts.

I had no problem with your comment. We are primates. One of the reasons we study lesser primates is to understand our own behavior. Your comment is not racial unless you believe black people are closer to chimpanzees than other people are, and you clearly don't believe that. I would say that some of the rioting and looting resemble Walmart on Black Friday or the hoarding of toilet paper and cleaning products during the pandemic, which cuts across all demographics.

(BTW, I've been to two stores and still can't find spray cleaner of any kind. On my way to Amazon.)

The fraud is already going on, with BIden supposedly 10 points ahead in the polls.

And then they have fake mail-in ballots to generate before the final totals.

Good Lord. There are resellers who want $30 for a 26 oz. bottle of my usual brand. It should be about $3.99.

Try Staples online, if you don't mind mass quantities

Clorox jugs

Spray bottles (not so great, but work)

Got all that in June.

And that is why I said I don't mind calling people chimpanzees if they behave like them. Behavior, not race.

White a*holes also behave like chimps.

The polls are bullshit. They always oversample Democrats. The GOP has recognized the mail-in ballot problem. I expect them to have lawyers thick on the ground, much like Bush vs. Gore, to challenge anything even remotely hinky.

I also note in a book I have been reading that the Deep State opposed Truman - so the polls showed Dewey winning.

Same with Trump.

Coincidence? I think not.

Renes Descartes was drinking at a bar. The bartender asked if he wanted another glass of wine.

He said "I think not" -- and he disappeared.

Lord of the Flies depicted it as well.  Primates weren't a comparison in that book, but the individual human civil decline without authority certainly was.  If that was your mentor's point, I agree.

The one I want is out of stock. It's silly but I've become accustomed to a particular scent. However, Amazon has ginormous refills if I don't mind buying a year's supply.

Agreed.  The problem is the potential days/weeks/month delays of the challenge which could create uncertainty unlike anything we've NEVER thought possible.

Should a result not be definite by Inauguration Day in January, will Trump still be POTUS?
