RIP Jerry Jeff Walker (never heard of him, but this was his most famous song because of all the covers)

First heard that song in the mid-late Sixties on the old WFMT "Midnight Special" program.   Walker had some other popular songs around that time, but I don't remember them now.  RIP.

I remember the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band doing the song, but here's a different one.

Which reminds me of a remark on SNL when it was funny.

When the UN passed the "Zionism is racism" statement, SNL said "Sammy Davis Jr said 'What a breakthrough! At last,  I can hate myself!'"

I contacted---well, tried to contact---WFMT a while back to find out if they were by any chance selling CDs of their 60s-era "Midnight Special" shows.  They were marvelous.  The combination of "folk music, farce, showtunes, satire, and sort of odds and ends" ranged from classic folk music to Nichols & May to then-current Broadway shows like "Cabaret," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Wait a Minim," and earlier shows like "She Loves Me" (the musical version of "Shop Around the Corner"), "Candide," "Guys and Dolls," and Peter Cook/Dudley Moore routines.  It was an education.

Sadly, all I was able to connect with was a hostile telephone receptionist who was...unhelpful.

Heard that song once before---maybe you posted it here before?---and it's really good.

I probably did link to that song before. There are some lyrics that are amazing.

Even the Christian reference - "Our Lord's cross may redeem us, but our own just wastes our time"

I think we have people here who have met people the song is about. Now, those who recognize their problems the way the songwriter did, well, that is rare. Most just are stuck with the hard love.

And now, I have to look for happier songs

Although this is sort of better. My favorite when paying bills

Or this, which is still not exactly happy, either

A good day. Worked a short shift. Went to the range and expended a couple hundred rounds. Came home and made a good dinner for the wife. Later while she and friends (and family) watched movies went to a buddies place and drank and talked glory days (if you could call them that). Definitely  a good day.

Kamala Harris has her very own “‘ello, Cleveland! Rock and roll!” moment (and then racistly mispronounces her own name, which means she’s a racist);
