Buzz - even though the Boston area is largely run by leftists, it has avoided the worst of the problems. No telling what will happen as the farther left members of the City Council gain more power, perhaps even one becoming mayor, but for now, it isn't bad.

Now, there are parts you don't want to be in (and they have changed since I last was really living in Boston), but there are various areas there and in the surrounding towns that are still walkable.

But expensive, or not so great places to live. That's why we're 40 miles out. And yet, I can walk to the commuter rail and 3 convenience stores if I want. But I don't think there are enough Jews here for a minyan. And not a whole lot to do, either.

My granddaughter is into a cartoon show called the Octonauts, about sea creatures who fight crime or something. The Captain is a polar bear called Barnacle. I wonder if that's a bit of a joke for the grownups.

Quite possibly.  There are---or were---a lot of in-jokes like that in cartoons and films.

I was wondering today whether "Chumley's Rest," the sanitarium in "Harvey," was a reference to the former-speakeasy (and, until covid shuttered it forever, restaurant) Chumley's in the West Village, and whether Elwood P. Dowd's favorite bar, "Charlie's," was a reference to the soon-to-close 21 Club, originally a speakeasy called "Jack & Charlie's."

Rocky and Bullwinkle were full of them. One episode, Bullwinkle had a toy boat, which, after he cleaned it, turned out to be encrusted with jewels.

Yes, it was the fabled Ruby Yacht of Omar Khayyam.

George of the Jungle, by the same producer, had an evil land developer, Gerry Mander, and another villian was Dr. Chicago.

The producer was Jay Ward. So in the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie, the infirmary at Wotsamatta U (Bullwinkle's alma mater) was called the "J Ward". And at some point, they drove on a bridge over the Crimea River.

(The movie had Robert DeNiro as Fearless Leader, using his TV channel to make people stupid and vote for him.)

Gots to git.  I think I'll be in slightly better shape tomorrow.

And the whole episode is full of stuff that kids wouldn't get. I knew there was stuff I didn't get as a kid, but it just made me more interested.

Rimski and Korsakoff go to Palm Springs
