So, here’s an icebreaker: which rifle scope should I get for my Ruger Mini 14?

We had the BEST flyover today and the four jets circled our area for a good half an hour and even turned on the after burners while heading over Dodger Stadium.  It was opening day and they are the champs.

Where I live, the only flyovers are real practice missions.

Last ones were V-22's

A-20's years earlier.

We live close enough to Reserves training area to hear the gunfire and artillery practice.

I grew up in a town next to an ammo dump and 70 miles from a Naval Air Station so we had the same thing.  When I was old enough to drive and had a little 1957 MGA roadster those pilots used to lose altitude and get right above my car.  It was scary but fun.  That little town 70 miles away has Top Gun now and they want some of the Federal land from around our little ammo dump so they can even fly closer.

Where we are, the main Army base shut down before we moved here, but there is still a Reserves area. Some buildings that look like designed for attack practice are even visible from a road.

Interesting.

A lot of military branches do training in and around the town I grew up in.  If you go to Wiki for the town or the base ( I can't recall which) but they'll have a photo of a mock up of Osama Bin Laden's compound.  Apparently our high-desert town and mountains are much like Afghanistan.

The mockup had a bad flaw. Its walls were not solid, so the helicopters behaved differently. The solid walls caused one to crash.

I remember the crash but I can't remember whether or not the crew made it.

I haven't been to my home town for quite awhile either.  I had hoped to go this year for Armed Forces Day but I don't know if I can do a bar scene while Covid is not yet more controlled.  It's fun but definitely a drinking weekend.

Everyone made it out; they had backup choppers, but they had to blow up that one
