One of those days.

Had to take a dog to the vet (regular shots); wife had a phone call at the same time, so I had to do it and make up the time later. At least the vet is 5 minutes away.

Dog is particularly nervous, so she was in a crate. At the vet, they come out to the car. Dog would not come out of the crate. I had to get her out - only to find she pooped in the crate. Fortunately there were plastic bags and paper towels in the car, but no hand cleaner, just sanitizer (but I used the bags as gloves).

Barely got home, cleaned dog more thoroughly, when my wife's computer froze and had trouble turning on. Got it running, but it is slow. Passes diagnostics; SpeedFan shows normal temperatures (which is what I thought was the problem). Still over a year on the warranty, and we have a cheap and a more functional backup computer, but replacing it would be difficult at this time. For one thing, she has used over 1/2 TB storage, and laptops with over 1/2TB are very expensive. You don't find hard drives, just SSDs now. And sending it to Dell would require being sure all her work is backed up, and securely erasing it - can't let client info be seen elsewhere.

So I need a drink or a few.

Plus, this week is recycle week, so I have to break up the cardboard or I'll have too much to do tomorrow.

As for backups, every night the data is backed up to a NAS RAID 1 device, an external hard drive on her computer, and external drives on two other computers, which could be quickly used as temporary replacements.

We have better disaster recovery than some companies (but generally, the ones I have worked for have done well)

Per Wiki:

The word "jukebox" came into use in the United States beginning in 1940, apparently derived from the familiar usage "juke joint", derived from the Gullah word "juke" or "joog", meaning disorderly, rowdy, or wicked.[6]

I was wondering if anyone was interested in a book review forum, so I created one.

You see, I read a book (We have Always Lived in the Castle, by Shirley Jackson) and I have no one to discuss it with. (My wife would be too creeped out by it)

Rules are, the initial post gives basic info about the book, NO SPOI:ERS

After that, no rules

I think I will set up a thread there soon on the book.

I've started new book Shattered Sword, the battle of Midway using Japanese sources. How the battle was affected by Japanese politics, doctrine, tactics and command decisions.

Done, with a link to the Kindle edition.

A novel written in the first person who  might be Wednesday Addams, but is more than that.

FYI, adding the forum took no code changes. Easy as adding a thread to a forum.

So if anyone has an idea for another forum, it is easy to add.
