I started reading the memoirs of Georg Ritter von Trapp, covering his time as the most successful Austrian U-Boot captain in the first World War. And let's just say he was nothing at all like the guy in the sappy musical. Though he did use a bosun's pipe to call the children. He learned that trick during the war because it was too loud in the sub to give verbal orders. With the kids it was to call them to dinner when they were running around the yard - nifty idea, actually.

I had some co-workers that went to the lodge, and one of his sons was still alive then.
