So I was reading to Little OR at bedtime. But at this point, he gets a little impatient, because he’s silently reading the text faster than my conversational-speed out-loud reading. He starts thumbing at the spot to turn the page, while I still have a paragraph to go.

Smart kid. Did he pick up reading on his own or was he taught? Some children learn reading simply by having the parent point to the words as they read.

Some of each, but I think more of the former. He sped ahead way faster than anything his mom or I were trying to do, and certainly faster than the level they were doing at school.

I'm looking forward to the long weekend for some, including our daughter. She and I will visit her dad tomorrow for his birthday, then I will spend the rest of the weekend with her. It should be fun.
