So today I've made chicken piccata, chicken marsala, chicken parmesan, and goulash soup, all for the freezer.  I'm done.

Just saw the "diner sketch" from WC Fields' "Never Give a Sucker an Even Break," where he looks at the menu and says to the waitress, "Is there any goulash on this menu?"  She wipes the menu off, and says, "That's beef gravy."

Last time I was in Bamberg I stopped by my old bar.  It had obviously had a huge makeover. I didn't recognize it.  Perhaps when I go back next I'll see if it's still the same owner - back in the day it was the meeting place for the CSU, the Bavarian conservative party, and hanging around got me in with some of the local politicians.  One guy I got to know through that and their other meeting place (where only the bigwigs went) was the chief of police -- a good person to know.

It's funny, but because I genuinely like old people (although that makes me one of them now) I had an entry into levels of society that I'm sure no other grad student had.

(Old people are, well, older than we are which leaves fewer and fewer to like as time takes its toll.)

As a yut growing up I remember how the old were trashed in the media.  Movies were made to devalue 'the hoary head' and sadly I admit I believed it . . . until I learned there is gold in them there heads.

But her chemistry professors said never to drink anything without a tax stamp

Back in the '60's, though, the hippies were saying not to trust anyone over 30. That was the tag line of some movie, I think, too.

Re the day's discussion - I have a generic letter from  the Air Force saying what I do is essential for national defense, so I can go to work, in case I get stopped somewhere.

Air Force outranks cops. An A-10 can take out any cruiser without working hard.

Probably 5-10 seconds of fire from the Gatling gun that it is built around (to stop tanks)

I wish I could post during the day, but wouldn't want the feds to say I'm not working on gubmint time.

Problem with most tests for COVID is they can't tell if the virus is contagious or just pieces. They use PCR - polymerase chain reaction - reproduces bits of genetic material - and they they see if the bits match COVID-19

Which means remnants of destroyed viruses match (positive results) until they are so degraded there is nothing left.  (Cue picture of drunk coronavirus smoking a cigar and flopped out on skid row)

Different tests seek a result which are then interpreted which  are then categorized which are then used to determine policies which are then used to impose restrictions which are then used to imposed those restrictions (or not) which are then used . . .

Sigh.

A test to see if particles are still infectious takes 2 weeks. Too long. But there is no good way other than seeing if a test animal gets infected.

At least not yet.Such at test will take time. Science, not settled,

True, btw, I cannot go to an establishment to get a hair cut but I can work 40 hours a week at the Store and interact with hundreds of customers each day.  I am deemed essential, doncha know. Too bad for those who chose to cut hair for a living.

So in the earlier thread about supply chains.... Everything is good in our store, except yeast and flour. A few large 10kg bags and no yeast. Meat is off and on from what I gather. Haven't really shopped a lot for meat lately. Although I think I may need to restock my pork loin supplies. Have run out of porkchops and I am low on "roasts". Might need some more chicken as well.

I have seen articles about how the shutdown is hitting minority communities more. Of course, the leftists won't admit it is their fault

You're being generous (to the police cruisers).

The GAU-8 is firing sixty-five rounds of 30mm (which is frickking yuuuuge) depleted-uranium rounds... per SECOND.

OK. One second. Hard to cease fire faster than that.

I still have to go to work, largely empty, where everyone has masks and avoids contact.

At least I can come home to pet dogs.  (The dogs are the ones that run to you when you come home.)

If you ever get the chance, take a full-auto firearm - pretty much any one - out on a range.  It will quickly change your perception of full-auto fire.

I'd love to have the chance. My wife's firearms expert says I should have some time shooting.

Probably will never happen, though. But I did get to hold an 1890s Colt revolver.

Chicago Mayor: City Won't Be Ready for Outdoor Dining on May 29

Despite Illinois allowing restaurants to reopen for outdoor seating in phase three of its reopening plan, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said city residents shouldn't expect that to happen this month.

That's because Chicago likely won't be entering its next phase of reopening with much of the state.

"I don't think we're going to be ready by May 29 but my hope is soon in June we're going to be ready," Lightfoot said during a press briefing . . . (not allow)

A family curse, it seems. I had an aunt who really wanted to go to Hawaii.

She did. Died there. The other relatives had to get her body back. Hard to do, and had to go outside Jewish law to do so (embalming was required)

I figure if I ever took a Caribbean cruise, the ship would hit an iceberg. (Yes, I know, icebergs are not found in the Caribbean. That's my point)

As for me, back in 1984, I got the job with the company I really wanted to work for. Figured I had it made.

Company tanked, was bought by another, and tanked that one, until it was bought by another.

(DEC, Compaq, HP, in order)

In case you read this tomorrow:

I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but around here (which is deep, deep blue), in order to fire a full-auto firearm at a range, you:

1) Find a range that has them for rent;

2) Pay your money;

3) Take a quick safety "class"; and

4) You're off to the races.

That's it.
