a little archy is always appreciated

BTW, did you ever read the story about Don Marquis going on the wagon? He wasn't seen in any of his regular haunts for some time, then one day strode into a bar he'd formerly frequented, and announced, "I've conquered that Goddam will-power of mine.  Gimme a drink!"

We need common sense coronavirus control!

I just spoke to a friend today---the first person I know personally who's actually had the Dreaded Virus. He apparently spent a miserable couple of weeks at home under a doctor's care.

Guess what he took for it? Can you say "hydroxychloroquine?" I knew you could.

It would be interesting to do a burlesque of the dialogues of Socrates,  called "The Dialogues of Bureaucrates," in which an interlocutor seeks guidance from a government employee and receives only gibberish in reply.

The science fiction version would have Vogons as the beaurocrats.

Oh, hanging in.  My spring semester classes just finished, which is great---the "distance teaching" took far more time than my usual procedure of going in and lecturing, which was a strain, but there's a possibility that my having to write out a bunch of stuff I can normally say off the top of my head could lead to a book or something.

Business is pretty much dead, but if I can actually whip myself into doing something productive I may be able to come up with some interesting things.  It's not like I don't have a bunch of projects that have been languishing.

And yourself?

MOST DEFINITELY

As for me I’m being a numb and loving it after having worked so long to do absolutely nothing above having fun as much as possible given the circumstances.

Doing fine. Still have a job, even if I have to go in to it, not work at home. But that isn't so bad, as my 25 mile commute now takes 35-40 minutes instead of at least an hour. I just have to watch out for idiots going 100 in a 45 MPH zone. (Seriously)

However, working where I am, with so few people, reminds me of video games like Half-Life.

I find it interesting that I hadn't used Unix in a job since 1999, but I passed their coding test and I'm using Linux at work., but ddAnd using Git (which some people think is so hard to learn)

I think starting to learn programming when I was around 15, and then learned FORTRAN, 1130 Assembler, LISP, and APL in about 2 years made a big difference. I still don't know which rich alumnus of my public high school was paying the price of a VW Beetle a month to rent a computer for general student access.

While out for a walk with little OR this evening, he pointed to a flower that had a sort of globular, spiky appearance (no idea what is is), and cheerfully said, "it looks like a coronavirus1"  (Which it did.)

He's doing remarkably well (in my humble and utterly objective opinion) in terms of both having a solid "child's understanding" of what's going on; yet remaining unfazed by it.  All the same, I hope this is all but a dim memory by the time he's in 4th grade.
