I think we should take over this street and make it an independent enclave

It would be run as a Marxist country, of the Groucho variety.

Which means it would immediately declare war on Sylvania

So, any comments? (Note the town the street is in)

I refuse to be a member of any enclave that would have me as a member.

And don't call me Shirley.

Thank you for getting it. I do hope you put on Groucho glasses before the first part of the answer.

BTW, there will be a password to get in.

.No, but it did include a haddock, which is why I linked to it.

Perhaps this one?

At least with dogs, I only have to take them out and they'll go back to sleep.

That's around the time I get up during the week, and usually don't get back to bed until 11:45

Youngest boy and I watched Midway tonight.  It's not bad -- it's not great either, but it's rather less hokey than the 1976 movie.  I could have done without the War Thunder special effects.

I got annoyed with the 1976 movie showing US carriers in their 1960's configuration, and also using them as Nip carriers.

I am a stickler for accurate historical representation.

The dumb love story was annoying.  And the cutting of actual combat footage -- from the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the kamikaze attacks off Okinawa -- that were wildly anachronistic. At least in this one they CGI the right sorts of planes (most of the time at least).

I think tomorrow night we might watch Thirty Seconds of Tokyo.  Now that's a great flick.

See, also, “Charlie Wilson’s war“, which includes a montage sequence of afghan mujahedin shooting down “Soviet“ aircraft with their new stinger missiles; including at least one Soviet... um,  F-4 Phantom.

I can understand years ago they could shoot photos of the planes available.

But with CGI, they need to get it right.

Of course, I remember a History channel show that had an animation of the Revolutionary War sub Tortoise trying to attack the HMS Eagle, and the Eagle had a propeller. Um, NO.

They also used the wrong images for other things.

But all that is quite accurate compared to their Ancient Aliens crap.

Did they include the part where the Eagle acquires the Turtle (Which is what you meant to say) on its sonar?

And then I’m pretty sure King George III tweeted US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt the next day to express his outrage over the attack.

If Nazi memorabilia is hard to get, fewer people will sport it, and it will become harder to maintain the false narrative that there are Nazis all over the place.

I had an uncle who was in WWII Iceland, and maybe elsewhere. He died before I was born.

But he brought back some Nazi memorabilia - a medal, sword, canteens - that I want to donate to a museum, not sell.

You really need to oil those blades, soon.  I'd suggest wiping them down with anti-rust penetrating oil to start with, and then, once you've cleaned off the worst of the rust, give them a light coating of mineral oil, which is neutral.

I'd also recommend treating the leather, such as that canteen strap, and any leather scabbards you have for the blades, with something like Huberd's Shoe Oil (you can get it online from Huberd's, who are located in McMinnville, Oregon), which is one of the best oils for preserving leather that is badly dried out, as that leather clearly is, and which is in danger of red-rot (if indeed it does not already have it).
