Yeah, I wondered why on earth all these people were breathlessly awaiting another killer hurricane. Personally, I'm just fine without any. While I can sort of understand newspeople wanting something new to report on (surely TrumpBad gets old after a while?), I really don't understand why people outside of the news and weather would be wanting to have one. But I saw the comments this weekend about liberals hoping to see Trump supporters die, and I shook my head.

Good morning. So I see we’ve had more “peaceful protests“ overnight, particularly in Wisconsin, after a police shot a black man in that state. And the Democrat governor has simultaneously said “We are still awaiting details of what happened”, AND essentially declared that the police are guilty of murder. Nice job, Guv.

Given that the guy is still alive, that's an accomplishment.

This is happening just up the road from mom.

To be more exact:

"Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers condemned the shooting of Mr Blake, who was reportedly unarmed.

"While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country," he said in a statement.

Hear that, WI law enforcement?  Your governor thinks you're a bunch of racist thugs.  And the cop in this case is already guilty.  The Guv has got your back...

We're going to give him a fair trial, and then we're going to hang him.

Althouse - Yesterday-in-wisconsin

If you want to know what's going on with this, follow the comments.  She's here in Wisconsin and although she's a leftist, she tries to be cruelly neutral.  Sounds like the cops had good reasons to be quick on the draw.  This guy had prior history and a cop was killed in that area a week ago.

Oh yeah, our governor, Tony Evers, was in charge of the school system in Wisconsin before he was elected governor.  That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about him.  Appointed a lot of his former coworkers to government positions.  I miss Scott Walker.

'Let the jury consider their verdict,' the King said, for about the twentieth time that day.

'No, no!' said the Queen. 'Sentence first—verdict afterwards.'

'Stuff and nonsense!' said Alice loudly. 'The idea of having the sentence first!'

'Hold your tongue!' said the Queen, turning purple.

'I won't!' said Alice.

Off with her head!' the Queen shouted at the top of her voice. Nobody moved.

Overhearing the gym teacher teaching a class.  I don't think she has correctly conjugated a single verb in the last 20 minutes.

Infuriating.

And this will become, more and more, the nationwide norm, if Biden/HermitCrab win.

But all trials proceeded the same way. While the language wasn’t formal, the statements had been formalized. Even the results had been formalized. We all knew what would happen because we had seen it before.

The accused was led to his table. Ralph Williams. I had seen him around, but didn’t know him. It didn’t matter. Even if I had worked directly with him, I’d behave exactly the same way in trial. Like everyone else, I was conditioned to do so.

Debi started the proceedings. She sounded informal and sincere, to those who were conditioned to see her that way. Looking back now, I can tell how she faked the cheerfulness and disappointment. It was her job, and she was good at it, making it seem like she cared about the person who was being sent away.

There would be no argument and no evidence. This was a trial in name only. We were there; society, in the form of Debi, accused Ralph of threatening society with incorrect thoughts, and we knew it had to be true. All there would be was a form of confession, statement of remorse and request for leniency.

Debi started “Ralph, you know why you are here, don’t you?” Ralph nodded, but said nothing. “You thought bad thoughts, and some people heard of them. You know how that can affect society, don’t you?”

Ralph hung his head, and softly said “I do. I have failed society. You tried to help me, to lead me on the correct path, but I went astray. I ask for the mercy of the court and my peers that I be given the chance to learn how to be a good member of society.”

“The jury will now issue its verdict.”

We all checked off Guilty and handed in our papers. No one bothered to look at them, I realized later. They knew what was marked. Then, after pretending to review the ballots, one person went to the judge and handed her a paper. She read it.

Debi announced the verdict the way she always did. “You have been found guilty of treason against society by having improper thoughts. You know we will have to send you away to protect society. But someday you will come back.” This penalty wouldn’t be permanent isolation, then. “I’m so disappointed, but I must sentence you to one year isolation.”

Ralph said “Thank you, judge. I deserve more, but I appreciate your leniency.”

A man in a dark suit walked up to Ralph and led him away.

We all sat for a few minutes to think about how this could have been us, until

You see, I had a dream one morning, a lot like but not exactly the recurring dream in the novel, and then I heard that song.

Since the dream involved someone being disappeared, it gave me ideas for what would start as a short story, then a novella, and finally a novel.
