I saw people were asking whether these fires were intentionally set late Friday; I think we might have an answer....

The Monterey County District Attorney's Office tells KION that they have no information or evidence suggesting that a woman accused of intentionally starting fires on Highway 101 has any connection to Antifa.

Nope, no Antifa membership card, must not be involved.  Andy Ngo will have the receipts very soon.

My alma mater has gone "woke" in a big way:

For the 2020-2021 graduate admissions cycle, the University of Chicago English Department is accepting only applicants interested in working in and with Black Studies. We understand Black Studies to be a capacious intellectual project that spans a variety of methodological approaches, fields, geographical areas, languages, and time periods. For more information on faculty and current graduate students in this area, please visit our Black Studies page.

To which they add:

Part of our commitment to the struggle for Black lives entails vigorous participation in university-wide conversations and activism about the university's past and present role in the historically Black neighborhood that houses it.

Hyde Park is not a "historically black neighborhood"; neither are the neighborhoods immediately to the north of it (Kenwood), to the south of it (Woodlawn, South Shore), or to the west of it (Washington Park).  Indeed, when we moved out of Hyde Park in the early '50s, the ahistorically black influx was creating such a crime wave that the University was seriously considering pulling up stakes and relocating.

I recall from a few years ago.

ANTIFA leaked docs about how they would set wildfires to stretch resources in the States.

I consider this to be a voter-suppression campaign. Don't forget that if people in more-rural (i.e., usually more-conservative) areas are burnt out and displaced, it will be much more difficult for them to vote. The local polling places where these people are registered will be gone, and the people scattered. Harder to get their mail-in ballots to them, and if---oops!---they go astray, and/or someone else fills them out, it will be harder to detect.

Wow.

And here I was under the impression that U of Chicago was, relatively speaking, a bastion of sanity among the "top-tier" universities as far as PC madness.  I guess not.

And (particularly if U of C receives Federal funds in any way) I'd also question the legality of this move.  It's not explicitly saying "we'll only be hiring black faculty", but it's damn close.

It was, I think, up until a few years ago, but there appears to be a shift in the leadership.

Yes, that will affect individuals, but part of me thinks this is a first step in the campaign. I fear they may start thinking bigger. There are pictures floating around of Antifa individuals training in Syria. I'm basing this on the Anti flag being carried and the location data in the picture. This makes me believe they have bigger plans.

Fixed. I haven't had time to verify the photos, which could be manipulated before upload.

Inslee: Washington battling 'climate fires' not wildfires

Unless some dramatic lifestyle changes are made, we will continue to see intense wildfires and difficult circumstances across our state.

No lifestyle has nothing to do with the fires, arson and piss poor wildland management are the main factors.

Nearly ever academic job posting since the beginning of the summer has been for some kind of black studies or "social justice" position.  The others are for positions in Asian history/language/culture (mostly Japan) and Jewish studies.  Always jobs in the latter field.

Precisely.  Forests simply spontaneously combust in their despair over the climate.  We really need to be dumping Prozac on the fires.

I find it interesting that these "climate change incidents" seem to primarily occur in the most woke-woke-wokeity-woke-woke "climate change" regions.

Despite multiple reports of arson, and a radio interview with a sheriff in WA on the radio this morning of gas can stashes near fires, and people sawing power poles to spark fires etc.... the media is very vested in denying any ties to BLM and ANTIFA.

Well, it's not like any of that represents a truly important news story... you know, like "white schoolboy caught on video potentially smirking" or anything like that, the sort of thing that would call for an MSM full-court press.

I did some digging and the photos I saw (forwarded in FB) were also cross posted at Pamela Geller's site. That web page quotes Newsweek and research done by Homeland Security.

Totally off any kind of current topic, it occurred to me today that "the blues" refers not only to sad music, but to music which, in its day, was pretty "blue," i.e., risque---things with highly-sexual over- and undertones.   Since many "blues" songs contain laments about how "my gal/my man done gone"---and they can sometimes get pretty "blue" in the sexual sense---I find myself wondering whether "the blues" refers more to "sadness" or to sexual content.
