I want to ask all y'all (the proper Southern plural) a question.

When I'm out, whether it's for a doctor's appointment, the store, what have you, I always run into someone who is either extremely tired of wearing a face mask all the time they are out or they have decided that the face masks are simply ridiculous and we should all stop wearing them. (I live in Illinois, where face masks are mandated everywhere.) I've only had one person still sound petrified, and while that person is nice she is definitely not the smartest fork in the drawer.

Is this consistent with everyone else's interactions with others? Are most people seeing through the gaslighting, or are they still completely in fear? I'm sure it depends on how the leadership of the state has handled this. I have a relative in Michigan who is absolutely on fire against Whitmer and her draconian policies that I would never have expected. He has always been the nicest, gentlest soul--until now.

Reply to vxbush in 1: I'm seeing the more liberal they are, the better chance they're wearing a mask and going along with all the so called "experts".  There has to be a joke in there somewhere.  Something to do with the mask restricting their oxygen, thus making them blue?  My conservative friends tend to be more fed up with it all and think they are being played.  They'll only wear a mask when it is absolutely required of them.

I'm seeing the same. If the person starts out on the left side of the political spectrum, they seem to be more likely to watch the MSM and therefore accept completely what they are told about the virus and the dangers of it. So they are far more likely to wear the mask, have their groceries delivered, you name it. I know of one person where I actually support their action because of a spouse who has cancer and is receiving chemotherapy. I am totally supporting that decision. But those who lean right have more skepticism about the media and have possibly done more to learn about the virus from other sources than the MSM.

I don't have cable at home, so I don't know how Fox is playing the virus during the day. My husband likes to watch the Five at 5, so they have completely quarantined themselves (or so you are lead to believe from the video). But I'm assuming that Fox is not proclaiming doom and gloom exclusively.

Here in DC, I'm seeing more masks than before, rather then fewer.  Again, a super-blue area, so perhaps not surprising.

In terms of gaslighting, on a different topic, see my post from last night regarding the Lancaster, PA police shooting and riots.

My sister-in-law---very Left, still has two Hillary stickers on her car---has insisted that people visiting her house wear masks inside, and observe "social distancing."  My sister, much less Left, has been going to craft classes where social distancing is not observed, and masks are not worn, though she will wear one on the street simply to avoid being hassled.

Several of the more Left-leaning members of my congregation have been hunkering in the bunker since this nonsense began---though, to be fair, they are older (two in their mid-sixties, two over seventy) and have some chronic health problems.  One of the mid-sixties group goes for Super-Social Distancing; get within six feet of him and he'll leap back to make it nine.  One of the most-conservative members doesn't wear a mask most of the time; will sometimes wear one of those clear visors secured by a headband.  I've heard some of the more-dedicated mask-wearers mutter in annoyance at his refusal to wear one consistently.

And on that (if any of y'all wish to read my post from last night), a survey:  Do i send my friend a link to a text and/or video about the "21 foot rule", or just let it go?

My friend kept banging on about how the cop shot him FOUR TIMES!!!.

To me, this is illustrative of simple ignorance... but colored by ideological brainwashing.

Quite frankly, I'm impressed at the cop's fire discipline in shooting him ONLY four times.  Seriously.  I'd perhaps have emptied the mag into that maniac.

I certainly agree with you there.  I would certainly mask up around a severely compromised person.  The reason being, you can't trust the information presented by the media.  They've been caught outright lying too many times.  You have to err on the side of caution without knowing what the true "facts" are.  I don't have cable TV either, but I wouldn't trust Fox and their information either.  I have to rely on the internet and people like you to point me to other sources of information.

I share your pain.  My sister wears a mask while driving her car when she has a passenger.  Her passenger must ride in the back seat and also must mask up.  My husband refers to it as "riding with Miss Daisy".  I haven't had to go anywhere with her that she's had to drive.  We took her with us one time.  She had to ride in the back seat because my husband and I were in the front seats.  She didn't wear her mask then, so I think this "Daisy" thing is virtual signaling how down with the cause she is to impress her friends.

Inslee refutes President Trump's wildfire claims: 'What a bunch of ignorance'

“Today he said the problem were leaves on the forest floor," Inslee said. "What a bunch of ignorance."

Media... Gov. Stupid and lazy hardly refutes Trump.

Inslee... it's not "leaves" it's heavy undergrowth, which hasn't been allowed to be burned naturally for decades.

I noted that he said he had seen the video. In my most charitable moments, I am assuming he meant "saw the video snippets on the TV news on my favorite MSM channel" and not the actual full-length video itself.

The other big problem with him and others on the Left-leaning side of the spectrum might be that they have absolutely no experience dealing with the police in a dangerous situation. They have never been the recipient of such an attack and have no idea what it requires to deal with such a situation. Unless they have gone through such a situation they have no clue what goes on during these situations. I would also wonder if he has talked to the folks in the black communities who say there should be more policing and not less. Again, I'm guessing he hasn't been in a position to meet such people and talk to them outside of his comfort zone.

As for wearing masks - it is not only leftist cities and states that require it, but at least one somewhat conservative arm of the Federal government. They restricted a lot, including a travel ban, online meetings instead of in-person, extensive cleaning of facilities, temperature screening, contact tracing, etc.

This was all ordered by people with quite a bit more information than even the government of various states and cities have. I think thus is what Trump was referring to about not releasing the danger because he didn't want people to panic.

That is what convinced me there is something strange about COVID; something we are not being told.

And some of the features of the genome, as described by Scientific American, also sound strange, and unusual for coronaviruses.
