I would like to take this opportunity, in anticipation of Yom Kippur, to apologize to any and all of the commenters here whom I may have offended in the past year; to assure them that such offense, if any, was unintentional; and to ask their forgiveness if offense was taken.

How do you get NPR to write a piece that is sympathetic to private gun ownership? Make the subject matter, specifically, armed black militias:

I am offended that you never took the time to offend me during this past year! But I forgive you.

In my experience, the people who should be asking my forgiveness, lavishly even, at this time of year, are the people who never would even think of doing so.

Lucius, did you ever find the problem with the spreadsheet? The reason  I  think it might be Excel itself is  because if  the backups were good when they were  made, then the only thing in common is excel or a macro that  got added to the default document, and you checked that.

Disks do get errors sometimes, but if it was the file that got corrupted, the backups would not be, or their corruption would be in a  different place.

And a repair install takes a little while, but you can still use the computer, except  for Office components.

I deleted the bad data, then tested everything.  Seems to work -- I think the problem was that my research assistant who entered the data a bunch of years ago accidentally introduced a formula into the column that then led to a cascading effect.  That's what I get for hiring a Canadian, eh?

O the upside, it has made me go through and do what I've been dreading for years, i.e., making sure all the data in that set of columns is correct.  A great deal of it needed updating.

Well, we're back from another camping trip up north and it's time to update my Biden sign report!  We travel about 100 miles north, almost to the Upper Peninsula border.  There are now 26 Biden signs along the route of mostly State & County highways.  There are easily 10:1 Trump signs outnumbering the Biden ones.  Lots of huge Trump signs and only one big Biden sign.  One thing about camping during the week, it's all retired/senior people out there.  Everyone one of them was a Trump supporter and everyone thinks Covid 19 is being exploited for political purposes.  I sometimes worry that the "older" generation doesn't really understand what is going on; but if the old folks in the northwoods know what's up, I guess that's a good sign.  There's even an Amish farm/business here with a Trump sign in their yard and I didn't think they even voted!  I was greatly encouraged until I got back and started to connect with the internet again.  Looks like a lot went on this past week, I've got to get caught up on it all now.  Hope everyone else had a great week!

I'm here. Been lurking and dealing with minor household chores like putting away the window A/C units. Also made bread and mixed cookies. Still no word about the test results.

If they lift the covid restrictions next month, I intend to waltz into a restaurant and order an October Surprise.

    And after that,  continue  davening.

    Back in around 25-26 hours.
