And so far a Monday of petty annoyances, though I did have a dream, or series of dreams, that were a James Bond movie.  A pretty good one too.  Felix gets laid in this one.

Felix may not be the all-around superspy stud that Bond is, but he beats Bond handily in being  a master of disguise.

I always wonder what it would have been like had Jack Lord continued playing him through the rest of the Sean Connery films.  I have to say I've like the most recent incarnation.

So my knee is less painful/tender this morning, but is still "wobbly" and I'm trying to be very careful (and leave the leg brace on at all times except to shower).  I'm... hoping for good news from the Ortho tomorrow, along the lines of "rest and anti-inflammatories for another week and you'll be right as rain".  Hoping.  Hoping.

In less important matters; so I watched a lot of TV yesterday; among the offerings, the sci fi movie Ad Astra.  [Semi plot spolters ahead]

I found it disappointing.  It starts off as a very visually interesting movie, that shows promise in terms of offering a well thought-out vision of what a near-ish future (late 21st century) would look like, as far as space exploration.  But then the wheels come off the whole "science" part of the fiction.  Most notably; the spacecraft shown in the movie appear to be good ol' chemical-powered rockets, and are, indeed, referred to as "rockets", with no mention of hyper-drives or anything of the sort.  The hero takes a rocket from Earth to the Moon; okay. Then another rocket from the Moon to Mars, seemingly getting there in a matter of hours, perhaps a day.  And then that same rocket is "requisitioned" to go to.... Neptune.  Which is kind of like flying a helicopter from JFK airport to Manhattan, and then having that same helicopter requisitioned to fly to, oh, say, Sydney.  The hero ultimately goes to Neptune and back to Earth, arriving home with seemingly about a week and a half growth of beard (and there's no suggestion of "cryo-sleep". etc., in fact, quite the opposite, we're subjected to his interminable internal monologue throughout the trip).  Huh?  It took Voyager 1 twelve years to get to Neptune.  And if  getting to Neptune is, at this point in time, like taking a cruise to Europe, why aren't they doing it all the time?  Instead, our hero's journey is described as only the second attempt to get there, the first having occurred 29 years earlier.

Anyway.  Nerd rant off (for now).

Wouldn't that start to seem like. crutch for Bond, though? If he always started being the movies, it would really be a two-man show. Just a thought.

Morning, campers. Office. is a "brisk" 59ºF. this morning. I'm getting pissed that this hasn't been fixed yet.

He certainly came across as the most formidable Felix (among other things, actually getting the drop on Bond, when we first meet him (Felix)).

I have to say I've like the most recent incarnation.

Jeffrey Wright is an excellent actor, but I'm not so crazy about his take on Felix. He just bangs a little too hard on the oh, look at how world-weary and cynical I am.  (With a big dollop of Yankee-bashing "... because I'm on the wrong side" in Quantum of Solace.)

Great moments in "progressive" virtue-signalling:

So I'm getting an Eddie Bauer ad (in another window, with Instapundit open) that shows a stack of their blue jeans, and which proudly proclaims, "Each pair is made with seven recycled bottles" [accompanying image of a crumpled plastic soda bottle].

Um... I don't really want blue jeans that are made out of plastic, do you?

It's either that, or they using the plastic soda bottles as weights to hold down the threads for the warp/weft (whichever one it is that needs weights to hold the threads straight).

Yeah, I got nothing.

Plastic?  That stuff made from petroleum?  The same petroleum that one of our presidential candidates wants to eliminate?

You’re probably right, especially the part of well publicized. I can see the media covering any violations as if it were “breaking news”, maybe even running several segments accompanied with dire Covid statistics.

The suspense of having a marked ballot sitting on my desk finally got to me so I voted early and dropped in the vote box at the local library. I’m of the same opinion, probably utterly useless out him in Kalifornia.

As I was walking away I overheard a man who was also dropping his ballot off say to some nearby library workers “I hope this isn’t a Republican ballot box”. And the workers actually chuckled and one said something like no, it’s for all ballots. Unsurprisingly I didn’t see humor in this and figured that my vote just got canceled out right there.

Well, that's settled. Putin says he sees nothing criminal in Hunter Biden's dealing.

“Yes, in Ukraine he (Hunter Biden) had or maybe still has a business, I don’t know. It doesn’t concern us. It concerns the Americans and the Ukrainians,” Putin said, according to Reuters. “But well, yes, he had at least one company, which he practically headed up, and judging from everything he made good money.”

He added: “I don’t see anything criminal about this, at least we don’t know anything about this (being criminal).”

Anybody get to watch the Trump rally in Lititz, PA this afternoon?  There were four Amish men standing behind him on the left side of the screen.  The other day they featured nuns behind him.  They must place these people in those "special" spots for optics, but it's funny to see.  I have said before, I have seen Trump campaign signs in the yards of local Amish farms here.  I guess the  Amish guys in Lititz figured they were safe, nobody at home was going to see them on "TV" at least.
