Morning, campers. I was offline yesterday to have a medical test done at the hospital. Fun, fun.

I didn't watch any of the live video on Wednesday--I was trying to be responsible and actually get work done--so I watched the most pro-Trump video I could find from InfoWars to see what someone who thought they were doing something good thought. The individual posted a 40-minute single take of his movement on to the capital. It claimed to show the moment Ashli was shot, but it really didn't; he was just in the vicinity when it happened.

I was appalled about several things: these people thought just walking in a building meant they had "taken" the Capital, when in fact they had done nothing of the sort. And while I was glad to hear people reminding others not to break stuff, the claim that later folks followed the "velvet rope" barricades was false. In one room those velvet borders were taken apart and the velvet portions were lying on the floor.

What truly bothered me were the moments when folks were trying to break into the Speaker's foyer. What happened to "don't break anything"? I have no idea why this woman was in the front, trying to break in. I think this videographer was late to the moment and just joined that portion of the mob because "something" was happening.

While this was a mostly behaved mob, it was definitely a mob. And then when Ashli was shot, you can see the police on the scene are really angry. Folks were trying o squeeze in to take the video, but no one was stopping to help her that I could. Granted, that particular area is very narrow, so only a few people could be close enough to help, but someone in the mob should have made a point of clearing people out. Maybe that happen after the video stopped. I was appalled by the behavior of the mob, just watching and yelling at cops, rather than stepping aside or trying to assist with the police.

Mobs are scary things, and while this wasn't a mob like BLM taking over buildings, neither was it in any way useful, despite what the pro-Trump folks have been saying. However, a very strong Democrat friend was absolutely berating anyone for supporting Trump yesterday and laid everything at his feet and just short of calling for every Republican to be arrested. This morning, I read the comments from yesterday, and saw lots of good comments.

My last comment--a professional video guy happened to cross paths with this InfoWars guy, and he had pro equipment. When he was asked what company he was with, he said National Geographic. If that's true, then I'm impressed National Geographic had someone on site--but I also think it's possible that the guy was lying to protect himself from getting beaten up because he actually worked with a MSM outlet. Yesterday wasn't like a war zone, so why weren't there *any* of the big-name media people there so they could be witnesses on the scene? Where are all those brave war reporters? You would think they would be in the thick of it as an objective eyewitness, but no.

In the end, these people were not Poland's Solidarity. Not even close.

In #28 Kosh's Shadow said: My parents used to call Corey's stuff "doubletalk". I guess he engaged in doublethink, too.

"Doubletalk" was a very popular comedy subgenre in the '40s.  Doodles Weaver, one of the vocalists for the Spike Jones band (he's the guy who does the "Beetlebaum" horserace commentary in Jones' "William Tell Overture") does a sort of doubletalk routine on the Jones Man on the Flying Trapeze number.

There are "doubletalk scenes" in a number of movies, but the only ones I can remember are in All Through the Night, the Humphrey Bogart anti-Nazi gangster comedy.  In the opening scene, Phil Silvers, William Demarest, and Jackie Gleason are arguing about how the war should be conducted, and Gleason lays a load of doubletalk on Demarest, who tells him to "cut it out."  Later in the film, Bogart and Demarest are impersonating two Nazi demolition experts at a Fifth Columnist sabotage meeting, and Demarest does a doubletalk exchange with Bogart to try and bluff their way through until help arrives.

Maybe the yeshivas are being told they need "more diversity"...

So I extended the olive branch to my son this morning and I'm waiting to hear back. I'm not angry,  just incredibly sad. I couldn't eat all day, which is unusual for me, and I didn't sleep well.

Oh! All time high covid deaths! 4000!

Let's apply the metrics for this.

75% of deaths are "with" covid not FROM covid.

1000.

40% of tests are false positives.

600

Now are including all flu, Covid Like Illlness (CLI) in covid numbers.

300

I saw your comments yesterday about this. I'm worried about my daughter doing the same thing. She used to understand that the US media was terribly deficient, but lately she seems to be holding more to the MSM line on things. Part of that may be a result of the graduate work she's doing that is leftist dominated. It leaves me concerned. So I really feel for your situation, and will pray for you two.

Thank you, and I'll pray for you and your daughter too. To me, this isn't about my son's opinions. He's a grown man and very intelligent. It's that he was so angry that he lashed out at me. I certainly don't approve of rioting. He seems to think I believe in all the most ridiculous conspiracy theories about the election being stolen, etc. What I actually said was that there were a lot of irregularities in some states including Georgia that should have been investigated. I said the lack of transparency in the process was a problem and a lot of people have lost faith in the system. So he can choose to be mad at me for things I never said and don't believe. I can't do much about it.

So if Trump is supposed to be thrown out of office for not denouncing the rioters enough, doesn't that mean both Biden and Harris, and many legislators should be thrown out for not just not coming out against the BLM rioting, but endorsing it?

I read something when I was a young mother that's carried me through all the child rearing days up to and including the adult aged child.  Trying to make it short, it said don't be devastated if your child screams "I hate you" for some action on your part.  That child truly knows in his heart that you love him.  He would never be able to vent his anger so violently if he were afraid you would abandon him and no longer love him.  When confronted with the danger he saw his sister was in, I think he needed to lash out at something/someone.  He knew he could depend on you not to abandon him for it.  You should be very proud you've been such a good mother to him.

Sorry if I misquoted you; I was attempting to summarize, poorly it seems. Note that the MSM doesn't help when they label such concerns as conspiracy theories with all the negative connotations they can attach to that term.

Not at all. I wasn't clear about the exact conversation. One thing I didn't realize is just how upset he was that his sister was in danger. She had checked in and we knew she was okay. I was working instead of watching it on TV so I didn't get too worried about her. It must have looked much worse than I realized. I'm very grateful she's safe.

Simon & Schuster Statement Regarding THE TYRANNY OF BIG TECH by Josh Hawley

After witnessing the disturbing, deadly insurrection that took place on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Simon & Schuster has decided to cancel publication of Senator Josh Hawley’s forthcoming book, THE TYRANNY OF BIG TECH. We did not come to this decision lightly. As a publisher it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: at the same time we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom.

Committed a variety of voices and viewpoints... except those that they don't agree with.

What role did Sen. Hawley play... do his duty under the Constitution is a threat to "democrary".

Pet Peeve... WE ARE NOT A DEMOCRACY!

Of course, it’s kind of like how urban neighborhoods that are 99.9% African-American are “diverse“.

My dogs keep chasing rabbits but never catch them. Part of that is because of the invisible fence system. Once they rabbit goes beyond the boundary they stop chasing.
