Morning, campers. This is one of those days when I wish I could have caffeine again.

In other words, a day ending in "-y"?

Woke up with a headache.  I hate that.  And I have a 12:30 zoom meeting that I'm not looking forward to.

A reference I saw at Lileks to how the Left is all into this woo-woo stuff about how non-Western (and therefore, superior, natch) cultures value the oral tradition, etc. etc. reminds me of a workplace training event I had to sit through some months back, given by an insufferable "expert" (associated with Harvard - again, natch) on "dealing with disruptive change".

In the first session, he played a video segment from the movie Dances With Wolves, in which the Lakota Sioux are sitting around a fire discussing how to deal with the arrival of Kevin Costner's character in particular, and white people in general. The expert then gushed about how, oooh, ahh, see how the Sioux have this amazing tradition of discussing problems in a large group, verbally, while taking turns speaking, and listening to each other?!

As if they were the only culture to ever do that.

The facilitator then invited participants to comment, and of course most people, sheeplike, said oooh ahh they took turns speaking and were so respectful. My contribution was: I notice only the men are speaking [which is true].

Had I wanted to gadfly a bit further, I might have added: "Hey, speaking of 'dealing with disruptive change', how did the Lakota Sioux wind up faring on that?", but I like my job, so...

Addendum: Mr. Harvard Expert also distinguished himself by saying in passing that the movie takes place during "the Revolutionary War". I gently corrected him. [eyeroll]

My thought.... so a movie made by Hollywood, funded by whites and a fictional story accurate represented the Sioux?

Of course they took turns speaking. The script said so. Now, were real Lakota Sioux discussions so polite or did the tomahawks come out?

I have to take some kind of virtual wokie seminar in a few weeks.  Not looking forward to it.

Oh, Mr. Harvard Expert insisted he had checked this out with Real Live Lakota Sioux, and that yes, it's twue, it's twue! [in the immortal words of Lili von Scthupp], this is how they roll.

Sure he did.  Probably had a chat with Liz Warren (who is not Sioux)

Maybe he did, and maybe they indeed, insisted that "our ancestors invented the staff meeting".   His assertion would still be stupid.

Either pot would be unaffordable, or there are more pot smokers than people in the US. A few million Cheech and Chongs couldn't pay that much.

I thought it was wunnerful, wunnerful/

Parents were BIG Lawrence Welk fans. One year I gave them a VHS tape of his shows when the NH public TV station showed them for a while, recorded off the air.

That was one of the best things I gave them.

That phrase was what came to mine with the Energy Sec. Nominee saying marijuana revenue will replace oil and gas revenue.
