Morning, campers. Not much news worth sharing; I'm pretty much exhausted from all the stupidity and bad news coming from the federal government.

Yesterday, NPR's Morning Sedition was going on about this being the hundredth anniversary of the Tulsa race riot, in which whites apparently went into what had been a fairly-prosperous black neighborhood and sacked it, destroying businesses, burning property, killing some people---in other words, behaving not unlike today's "antifa."

There are at least two other similar examples of whites attacking black neighborhoods; the Chicago race riot of 1919 and the "Rosewood Massacre" in Florida in 1923---yet these are seldom, if ever, mentioned.  I wonder why; I suspect that the Chicago riot is not mentioned largely because its centenary has passed, and that Rosewood is being held in reserve so that it can be used to stir the racial pot in two years, especially since it will then be close to the next presidential election and may be exhumed to collaterally tar Ron DeSantis if he decides to run for president.

Meanwhile, the Tulsa incident was being used to bolster the increasingly-popular "economic equity" rants; the commentators were talking about how even when blacks did do well, the RACIST! larger society acted to take away what they had.  This led inevitably to talk about "reparations" for "the survivors" of the Tulsa riot---which would be a little odd since, if the riot was 100 years ago, it's hard to believe that any survive.  They also explicitly refused to call the riot a "riot," on the totally incomprehensible grounds that to use the word "riot" would supposedly imply that there was "equal participation by both races."  I don't quite get that, other than to observe that this means we're going to be treated to a new round of the Left changing the meaning of words.

Oh, goody. I'm just waiting for the time when every word used means white people will be blamed. We're almost there now.

Property Rights.... what rights?

Squatters take over multimillion-dollar Sammamish home, police say hands are tied

“As we were beginning to take a look at our next steps, an unlicensed motorcycle showed up with two people on it,” Pingrey said.

Neighbors identified the two people as the squatters and both were arrested for burglary, according to Pingrey. Both were out of jail within days and headed back to the home, bringing more people with them.

“After they were out of jail, we had a large group trying to get back into the house,” Pingrey said. “No one was supposed to be there. The homeowners were not allowing anyone to stay there.”

Taking the advice of local prosecutors and lawyers, Pingrey said law enforcement is limited in what they can do. His frustrations hit a boiling point when the squatters demanded to be allowed to take property inside the home with them. Pingrey said, legally, his hands were tied and officers conducted a “civil standby.”

Pictures taken by a neighbor show police vehicles lined up on the street with officers watching, as the squatters filled a U-Haul truck with items inside. Another picture shows a garage full of appliances, including an ATM.

“We were not allowed to go in there with them and had to allow them to take this property out,” Pingrey said. “The person who had been illegally living there (was able) to come in and get what they stated was their property.”

Took dogs to the groomer. They are poodles, so they don't shed, and it has been a long time. Rather furry and hot.

Repost from last night, for a bigger audience:

I hope the court throws this out and makes them pay Trump's legal fees

The real target is the US media, which is only now starting to admit COVID could be due to a lab leak. Many outlets will stop if they are afraid of being sued. For evidence of this, look up the Islamic Society of Boston's suit against the Boston Herald and Americans for Peace and Tolerance. Even though the discovery gave boxes of evidence the ISB was connected to terrorism, the Herald forbid further stories on it.

Trump sued for referring to COVID as 'China Virus', inciting violence

Former US president Donald Trump is being sued for referring to COVID-19 as the "China Virus" while in office.

The lawsuit, filed in a Federal Court in New York on Thursday by the Chinese Americans Civil Rights Coalition (CACRC) points to various comments made by the former president in speeches and statements that caused "emotional distress" to Asian Americans and encouraged hate crimes directed toward the Asian community, while fueling racism across the country.

Specifically, the lawsuit points to Trump's repeated use of the terms: “Chinese virus”, “Wuhan virus” and “Kung Flu virus” amid the coronavirus pandemic that has so far taken the toll of nearly 590 thousand people in the US alone.

First, the virus DID come from China.

Second, why is this suit being filed now? Maybe it has something to do with the fact the media is finally realizing the lab leak theory makes more sense than the virus moving to people, given the bat virus occurs naturally in Yunnan, 1000 miles away from Wuhan, but never seemed to infect anyone there.

And third, how much money for the suit is coming from the Chinese Communist Party?

Sue the town for taking their property. Essentially the town has taken away their rights as property owners, so they are owed fair market value.

Speaking of COVID

Three scientists from the Wuhan lab were hospitalized a month before China reported the first cases

Three researchers from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology became so sick in November 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic, that they were treated in a hospital, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

The information came in a previously undisclosed U.S. intelligence report obtained by the newspaper, adding to previous speculation that the COVID-19 virus that sparked the worldwide coronavirus pandemic may have escaped from the laboratory located in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the apparent original epicenter of infection.

Blinken is in Israel to show support for Israel and "rebuild ties with the Palestinians"

“President Biden asked me to come here today really for four reasons,” Blinken said. “First, to demonstrate the commitment of the United States to Israel’s security, to start to work toward greater stability and reduced tensions in the West Bank and Jerusalem.”

He added that supporting “urgent humanitarian reconstruction assistance in Gaza” and “continuing to rebuild our relationship with the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority” would be major focuses of the trip.

More money for the Palis because they love the US so much/ (liink)

Scores of Palestinians demonstrated in Ramallah on Tuesday in protest at US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to the city.

Chanting “America is the head of the snake,” the protesters said they were opposed to “receiving the enemies of the Palestinian people on our land.” They also chanted: “Our people want the [rocket-propelled grenade] RPG.”

I say, they want RPGs? Shoot, let them have some. (And I do mean "shoot")

Dogs groomed. Going to get them  - Puttin' on the Ritz, in Hubbardston, MA; basically out in the middle of nowhere.

One of the top dog groomers in the country. You'd take show dogs there. But no, we do not have them cut that way, even if they are poodles.

Gaza reconstruction would undermine Hamas, Blinken says

The only :"undermining" as a result of building materials sent into Gaza will be Hamas building more tunnels under civilian buildings.

"Puttin' on the Ritz," by Irving Berlin, was first introduced in a stage show (I forget the name) by Harry Richman, who can be seen doing the number here.

The song simultaneously celebrates Harlem nightlife and pokes fun at the pretensions of Harlem blacks.  "Thursday evening" is mentioned because that was the traditional domestics' night off; "Lulubelle" is an allusion to black-sounding names.  Note the lyrics---"Spangled gowns, upon a bevy of high-browns, all misfits"---i.e., black women in expensive gowns bought cheaply.   The song refers to "High hats, and colored collars/White spats, and fifteen dollars"---i.e., wearing a top hat with a colored collar (something you don't do; a top hat goes with full evening dress, not a daytime collar); "white spats, and fifteen dollars" (i.e. a fancy outfit and a short purse); "spending every dime, for a wonderful time."

It is my personal belief, though I've never been able to verify it, that on the stage "well-to-do" was, instead, "jigaboos," which was too inflammatory even then for filming or recording (the Richman 78 says "well-to-do"); the pejorative was much more in keeping with the theme of the original lyrics.

Berlin was famous for rewriting/repurposing his lyrics; he did so with "Puttin' on the Ritz" at least twice.  This version, with Ann Miller and Ray Bolger (the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz), moves the locale to Park Avenue; note the change to "High hats, and white stiff collars."

This was later further debased by later versions such as this disco abomination, which adds the lines "Dressed up like a million-dollar trouper/Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper (super-duper!)" Ugh.

Berlin sort of inverted "Puttin' on the Ritz," and satirized his own rewrite of his own lyrics, with "Let's Go Slumming on Park Avenue," in the film "On the Avenue."

True.  But speakies were very expensive, and many of them had a cover-charge (called "couvert," in those days) as well.

I have an interesting volume from 1931; Vanity Fair's "Guide to New York Nightlife," which lists, if not all the nightspots in town, a very large number of them.  It lists some of the weird fantasy spots in Greenwich Village, lots of Harlem and Midtown spots, things like the drag balls which were a feature of Harlem's Renaissance Ballroom, a section called "Chop Suey With Dancing," and another labeled "Chop Suey Without Dancing."

Fifteen dollars was probably a good three weeks' or month's wages to someone in modest circumstances, but does mention "spending every dime/for a wonderful time."  Point being that the white spats---spats were expensive, and white ones, which were hard to keep clean, even more so---suggest a wealth far beyond a purse that contains merely $15.

BTW, I speak from experience regarding the spats; I used to have four pairs; grey, fawn, a more cafe-au-lait pair, and a pair of white summer spats in a heavy cotton duck rather than the felted wool in which spats were normally made.  Keeping the white ones clean was a real pain.

Indeed not.  The more so since I don't currently own a pair of spats, though there's pic of me at an Easter Parade in New York, back in the early 1980s, where I'm sporting a pair, on my rather sadly-neglected Facebook page.
