Good morning. Happy Friday.

Kosh, you ended the day yesterday in the daily thread by saying, "Our modern "emperor" and his acolytes (the elite) believe there really is nothing to live for. And so they worship nothing." I would disagree with that, just based on the nature of man. Murder detectives always say there are three motives for any murder: sex, power, or money (or sometimes all three). I would suggest that anyone who goes into politics is interested in power, and therefore they will do anything to gain power, include strip everyone else of anything at all. In the end, they worship themselves.

Now--can we find some good news for today? Maybe not good news, but definitely interesting: the next time you get a package with packing peanuts in it, you might be able to eat the peanuts. The benefit of this method is that it takes waste from one process and converts it into a useful product, which is the same way that gasoline was developed.

I haven't been there in.. wow, 27 years or so.  I recall it being a very enjoyable place.

Apparently those trains lost their Virginity in 2019.

True. I should have said they don't believe in anything greater than themselves.

As for everyone else, the cult of personality only goes so far. There is no one on the left that has enough charisma to pull off a real popular revolutionary dictator shtick.

Leftists and secularists may have their causes; note how they treat "global warming", "racial equity", and other stuff as a religion. Don't accept it or even question it? You are a heretic!

And then some people look for a cause to believe in. Today, too many of those become Muslim jihadis. Liberal churches and temples just don't give people what they need.

And this is where leftists and secularists never understood Trump, and called him a fascist. Some Trump followers probably did have a cult of personality belief in Trump; most, I think, did not, but they understood he was a defense against the leftists tearing down the causes they believe in - G-d, America, the family, tradition.

Looks like Ilhan Omar went a wee bit too far even for the House Democrat leadership this time.

Many of those denigrating Trump were doing so because they thought he did have a cult of personality going on--and thought no one would willingly vote for Trump for reasons.

Which is why this tendency in public education to simply spoonfeed kids and not teach them any ability with reason or logic is so terrifying.

Happy Friday, y'all. I have both of my daughters home, the first time I've seen them since the end of 2019. Younger daughter came down last Sunday because she broke up with her boyfriend. it's tough on all of us because we adore him, and at this stage we aren't sure if they'll get back together. Oldest arrived last night. They're off to Six Flags today. They generously offered to paint my kitchen tomorrow, but we'll see how that goes.

Given that the faux-rainbow flag of the gay-rights movement has six stripes instead of the proper full-rainbow seven, I considered, some years ago, doing a drawing that showed these six colors and was a bogus ad for "Sick F*gs over America," as a reference to AIDS.

I did not do this, partly out of respect for friends of mine who had died from AIDS in the early years of that epidemic, and partly for fear of being hunted down and killed by a howling mob if I did.

Taking today off. Got the turntable, and have digitized one Molly Picon record (RCA Victor 25-5021, both sides)

Need to do some work to get it on youtube; will post links later when it is done, but I need to run errands first.

Just going through one album, there are some novelty sings including some Mickey Katz I never heard before.

I keep thinking of doing this; I've got some records I would have to have digitized, even though the quality will be less.

I've seen newer versions that add a brown stripe, I guess for "brown bodies" (which SJWs use a lot but sounds dehumanizing). Not to mention that hideous mess with pink/blue/brown/black triangle that looks like it's trying to sexually assault the rest of the rainbow.

Plenty of USB turntables on Amazon. Got this one on Woot, for $40 (normally $100)

Still available. Comes with Audacity to record, but download the newer version; theirs is old.

Cheap but works. Probably would wear down vinyl quickly, though; 78s are tougher.

The New Wokie Flag is---or should be---an object of hilarity.

The original "rainbow flag" is simultaneously a faux rainbow---a rainbow has seven, not six, color bands---and supposed to be "inclusive" in that "the rainbow includes everybody."

Well, no.  First they added a black stripe and a brown stripe, because the "rainbow that included everybody" (despite its being incomplete) apparently did not include "black and brown people."  That would be BIG NEWS to that old Stalinist Pete Seeger.

But it's apparently not enough to have a "rainbow" AND two EXTRA stripes for the people the "rainbow" was supposed to include.  No, of course not; they had to revamp the "rainbow flag" to look like a bastard version of the "Palestinian" flag, with a triangular field---with the "transgender flag" colors of white, pink and blue, and the black and brown stripes, added.

Well.

I just received the following e-mail from my alma mater, Georgetown U:

__________________

June 11, 2021

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Alumni Community:

I am writing today to share actions taken in response to experiences shared with us by a former undergraduate student relating to deeply troubling and unacceptable behavior by the late J. Donald Freeze, S.J., who served in a variety of roles on campus, including as Provost from 1979-1991, and who was awarded an honorary degree in 1991.

I established a Working Group of the Board of Directors to oversee the University’s response. I join the Members of the Working Group in sharing the update below to the University community.

We are writing today to share actions the University is taking relating to deeply troubling and unacceptable behavior by the late J. Donald Freeze, S.J.

While this behavior—which involved non-consensual kissing and touching—occurred more than 30 years ago, it is particularly egregious due to Fr. Freeze’s role as both a member of the clergy and as our former Provost. We wish to acknowledge the courage of an alumnus in coming forward and to express our distress at the experiences that he has shared and the abuse of power that occurred. The Working Group of the Board of Directors was charged to address these allegations and advance our work with the regional province of the Society of Jesus (now the USA East Province) which assigns Jesuits to serve the Georgetown community. The Working Group, in collaboration with the alumnus, has helped to strengthen the work with the Province to ensure transparency and information-sharing between our institutions.

With the concurrence of our Board of Directors, Georgetown University expresses its deepest apology and has revoked Father Freeze’s honorary degree as well as all other university-sanctioned recognitions.

In partnership with the alumnus and as part of our ongoing work to prevent and address sexual misconduct, we have engaged the USA East Province, which has now committed to readdress and strengthen its policies and processes for sexual misconduct perpetrated against adults, and to more fully share with Georgetown information regarding sexual misconduct of any kind.

We see these steps as the continuation but not the end of our work, and we are committed to continuing to partner with the alumnus to ensure that not only University policies but also Province policies are as strong as possible in supporting survivors. We will also continue our response to the clerical sex abuse crisis, hosting public convenings and conversations that build awareness and supporting research into the effects of clerical sexual abuse on survivors and how to improve screening and assessments of candidates for the seminary.

The safety of the Georgetown community is our first priority. In the years since Father Freeze was Provost, we have implemented strong policies and procedures to provide support for sexual abuse survivors, including survivors of clergy sex abuse, and programs to safeguard our community from sexual misconduct of any kind by any member of our University.

We are grateful to the alumnus who came forward with his experiences and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any clergy abuse. Campus Ministers and members of the Society of Jesus play a unique and trusted role in our community. We must continue to create a trusted environment that encourages survivors to come forward and provides them the best possible resources and support.

We understand that this information is deeply upsetting and we would encourage members of our community to reach out for support. We encourage all members of our community to report sexual misconduct and use the resources of the University to obtain support. Individuals can also report sexual misconduct by a Jesuit by contacting the province’s victim advocate at ueaadvocacy@jesuits.org.

Georgetown remains deeply committed to preventing and responding to sexual abuse and to protecting the most vulnerable among us. Our community has and will continue to be built on care and trust, as well as accountability and action.

Sincerely,

John J. DeGioia, President, Georgetown University

So I do remember Father Freeze as the Provost from back in the day when I was at GU, but I had no real... er... contact with him.

I do know of some classmates who were "Freeze Boys" at the time... which, at the time, was just understood to mean, lads whom the good Padre had taken under his wing as a mentor.

I wonder if there's something these friends and acquaintances have kept to themselves, all these decades, about that relationship.

I know nothing about this, one way or the other---but I have to ask what the hell is the purpose of slagging the name of a dead man who, clearly, cannot defend himself, other than for someone to be able to today enjoy the wallowing self-abasement in the increasingly-popular ritual of vicarious absolution?

Whom does it help? Nobody.  Whose actions does it change or address, at this date?  Nobody's.  Does it help the people who claim to have been subjected to this person's attentions?  The time for that would have been a decade or two or maybe three ago.  Indeed, I see no benefit to the alleged victims of whatever inappropriate behavior is alleged; what gain is there to them to be able to march around saying "I was---or at least claim to have been---abused in this way or that!"?  They look like cowards twice over---for submitting to whatever they claim, unprovably, to have happened, and for having kept silent about whatever it was for so long.
