In #3 Occasional Reader said: Good morning. Some potentially good news regarding how much damage the IDF inflicted on Hamas. I consider it good news. Fewer people will be complaining about collateral damage. It won't get rid of everyone complaining about Israel defending itself, but it gives the other side more ammunition to show how tightly Israel controlled it. I wonder, though, how well Israel will do with the new prime minister in protecting its citizens. I admit I am concerned about the new government.

Reply to vxbush in 4: I recall seeing a list of the 10 oldest surviving businesses in the world, and I think seven or eight of them were located in Japan. Which to me is surprising, given the various tectonic changes that country has been through. (I don’t mean that literally but figuratively.)

Juneteenth! Juneteenth! Juneteenth! Juneteenth! Gah. It was all-Juneteenth all the time today on Morning Sedition. Curiously, with all the "Juneteenth" flapdoodle flying around, there was no mention---nor sound clip---of Louis Jordan's 1940 side "Juneteenth Jamboree." For that matter, while there was some mention in the local part of the broadcast of various concerts or webcasts or something of "black music," names like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton, etc., were completely missing. Hell, they didn't even mention Gladys Bentley, a famous Harlem figure who was a lesbian that ran her own nightclub, was also a singer, and was known for dressing in men's formalwear (a la Marlene Dietrich)---who you'd think that they'd be celebrating up one side of the street and down the other, given that it's "Pride Month" as well as Juneteenth.

Reply to vxbush in 13: The UNRWA head in Gaza said that the IDF strikes were precise, but savage, and clearly aimed at Hamas and other terrorist locations. For that, he was thrown out of Gaza even after he apologized. The problem is, the world media hates Israel and slants the stories against Israel, and this is especially the case for some of the most respected organizations, like the NY Times and BBC. Too bad countries can't sue for libel.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 9: I will guess that WCRB, the Boston classical station will celebrate by playing works by Florence Price and Scott Joplin, but maybe tomorrow. I don't see them on the playlists that are up on the site for today, but they are not complete. They play works by those composers, as well as other Black composers, regularly, and while none of them are a Bach or Beethoven, they are still good. The closest they come to jazz is Gershwin.

Duke Ellington, for one, did classical, or classical-esque, works, though I can't name any of them offhand; he was at least as "classical" as Gershwin was "jazz." BTW, there is a cartoon---I forget by whom---from around the time Gershwin did "Rhapsody in Blue," of Gershwin, celebrating "the new jazz---which is just like music."

Suspect arrested for theft of police officer's personal vehicle Why is an auto theft making the news you might ask..... BELLEVUE, Wash. - Washington State Patrol says they arrested a 49-year-old man from Seattle Thursday for allegedly stealing Seattle Police Officer Lexi Harris' car after she was hit and killed by another vehicle on the side of I-5. WSP says Roger Lee Owens Jr was arrested at a hotel in the Eastgate area of Bellevue for felony hit and run, theft of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a stolen firearm. State Patrol says Owens was involved in the three-car collision that Harris had pulled over to assist with on her way home from work. He allegedly got out of his car following the collision and fled in Harris' car.

This ignores the fact that Islam requires members of other religions to be treated as dhimmis, without full rights. The Arabs will never agree to a truly secular state and Jews know they cannot count on anyone else to enforce their rights. Arabs and Moslems have full rights in Israel; Jews will never have full rights in a joint state with Palestinians.
I get a warning that some in the community might take this as offensive and it needs to be moderated. But it did show up. We'll see if it stays.

I think the blue people have now entered a state of complete confusion regarding the virtue signaling aspects of wearing a mask. I just passed a mom and a little boy in my deep blue neighborhood. Mom was wearing a cloth mask, but on her chin. The little boy, who really never needed one, is wearing one, only covering part of his mouth, not the nose.
