JCM, I assume you cooked that egg on the sidewalk?

Morning, guys. Our basement flooded a foot on Friday night; our area had torrential rains, and one of our sump pumps failed. I know multiple people had flooding problems. We've been working like crazy cleaning up the stuff that got trashed and airing out, and we're still not done. I'm going to have to get a small dumpster so we can throw away a bunch of stuff. Little of it is stuff I care about, so in the end it might actually be a good thing. But my calves are soooooo tired today. My watch recorded 34 flights of stairs.

Good morning, everyone. It's a strange day when Atlanta is cooler than Seattle.

I'm delighted to announce that I have accepted a new job - a real, permanent, full-time job with benefits. I'll be doing work similar to what I'm doing now, but with more responsibility, a clear path to advancement, and more money.

I also booked myself a solo trip to St. Augustine for a few days before I start the new job. Really looking forward to some downtime at the beach.

I'm sorry. The house I grew up in was prone to flooding and we had a foot or more of water in the basement more than once.

Oh, most excellent! Gainful employment and advancement options! Wonderful news.

We've occasionally had water in the basement, but it's never been more than an inch or two and so didn't affect much. We just had to make sure to let it dry out, vacuum up the dust, and then mop it with bleach and it would be fine. There's no drywall. But this time there was so much water that it ruined several boxes of items and some furniture.

Couple things about the "record' temperatures.

Seattle's official temperature gauge is at SeaTac Airport, between two runways.

I look up the NOAA official recording station for Portland Oregon. It is downtown Portland, on a vacant lot with streets on all 4 sides.

Which was, of course, listed as an "indoor pool" in the real-estate ads.

LOL no, but we could have listed it with a pond in the backyard, which was also prone to flooding. I have pictures of my brother in an inflatable boat. It often froze in winter and we hosted the neighborhood skating rink.

Now that could be useful, because you could charge for entry and concessions.

I was not so clever. One time a neighbor kid broke his arm; today the parents would probably sue.

I like my coffee the way I like my women... iced, and... no, wait, that doesn't work.

We also used to get a pond forming in the backyard of the house I grew up in (as of age 12), which actually seemed kind of neat to me at the time; since it would start attracting waterfowl.  (I didn't really think about the mosquitoes.)

Oh, I'm stumping around, mostly with one crutch.  No real pain, but the boot, which I'm going to need for a while, is an annoyance.  I'm looking forward to emerging from the apartment tomorrow for the followup doctor visit, and some increased mobility thereafter.

I don't really feel like doing much except sleeping, but that's not always possible even when I want to.

You'll want your boot to look its best while you're out.

I just realized, I have one of these, never used, still in the box:

Waterproof Leg Cast Cover for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KW8XSPL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I ordered it after I had my injury late last year but never needed it.

I could send it to you if it would prove useful. Just let me know.

That looks like it might come in handy; I'm not in a cast, but a bunch of bandages/dressings, which I'm under strict orders to not get wet.  I'm also under orders not to stand/walk on the foot (save the heel) for a time.

I'll know more of what I need when tomorrow, since that's my doc followup, but if you send it to the address in the block at the bottom of my email, it will go to my UPS store drop which is easily accessible.

Thanks in advance---it looks much better than taping a trashbag around the limb.

Supreme Court won't hear dispute over bathrooms for transgender students

SCOTUS rejected it for the wrong reason, the lower courts agreed therefore SCOTUS doesn't need to take it up.

The right reason would be it's not Constitutionally a Federal Matter.

The conclusion is wrong. Letting people go to a bathroom shower of their choice based on ohh oh Feelings is not a rational decision.

According to an article just up at PJM, a company founded by Hunter Biden and John Kerry's stepson Christopher Heinz was involved in funding the Wuhan lab's coronavirus research.
