Nurse visit and first round of home-care provider interviews.  You can't imagine how much I'm looking forward to this.

A friend at work had to do the same a few years ago. One thing I learned talking to her about this is that whoever you choose is going to be *your* advocate (and your mothers) on site, as it were. So keep that aspect in mind. You need someone who will stand up to the doctors and nurses because this caregiver should know your mother better than they do.

The US negotiator on Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, "will press the Taliban to stop their military offensive" at talks in Doha this week, the State Department said Monday after the insurgents seized a series of provincial capitals.

Well, that should do the trick.

It's so simple! Why didn't we ever use this technique before? "Sept. 2, 1939: State Department will press Nazi Germany to stop their military offensive in Poland". And voila! No World War 2.

I hadn't thought about the advocate angle -- make sense, though.  Thanks.

"Russia negotiators kindly ask Napoleon to stop invading; Napoleon declares he's seriously thinking about it."

Glad to help, if it can.

I remember "blackboard" being supplanted by "chalkboard" some time back---in part because more and more "blackboards" were green.

And then of course we have "whiteboards",  which are also problematic, I should think.

Well, whiteboards are supreme in boardroom meetings/presentations...

And since they are affixed to the walls, one might even call them structural.

Some years back, when the use of whiteboards was coming onstream, it was always fun to see in a meeting room the "oopsie" remnants of someone who'd used a permanent marker on a whiteboards, then frantically tried to clean it up.

Cuomo is resigning- not immediately as he should,  but in 14 days. Does he need the last paycheck that badly?

Probably needs the two weeks to a) scout around to see if there's some way he can manage to hang on after all, and/or b) to ensure that the right deals are in place to guarantee he will not be prosecuted.

And to get his CNN contract signed.

Good grief, could you imagine him getting a deal to do a point/counterpoint show with Chris? Except it will be dopey Fredo nodding in agreement with everything Andrew says.

Somehow, I can totally see CNN doing this, given that they have had so little viewership now that Trump is no longer president.

So does this mean we can rename that bridge the New Tappan Zee Bridge, finally?

There was. It was demolished some years back and replaced with a new bridge basically at the same Hudson River crossing point, since the old one had outlived its useful life. And the new one was named… The Mario Cuomo Bridge.  Oh, guess who was governor of New York at the time?

Never name public works after living leaders. Exhibit A: Brendan Byrne Arena. People hated that.

BTW, it's been so long since I left NJ, I had no idea it had ever been called Izod Arena, let alone that it closed in 2015. I didn't even know Byrne was dead.

To be clear:  In this case, Mario was already deceased; His son Andy was Governor.

Even my reflexively-Democrat family thought this was a classless move by Andy.

I think we've got someone lined up.  But she's not happy about it.  She's convinced that whoever comes in will be trying to break into her computer and steal all her money.  Ha!  They don't need to do that -- she's going to have to pay them all her money anyway!
