Presumably he was told this by the same people who "instructed" him which journos to call on after the Kabul airport attack speech.

Given the number of unforced errors in this, is this any surprise?

If someone was trying to complete FUBAR the Afghan withdrawal.

Would they do anything different?

I ready to strangle several of my family members.  It is a good thing they are 800 miles away.  I don't think I'll be answering my phone for the rest of the day.

I keep trying to believe this is not being done on purpose, specifically to weaken the US and strengthen radical Islam.

But it ain't easty.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 8:

So many decisions would have to have overridden military plans for a withdrawal. no phasing of withdrawal, just abrupt, turning away Americans, giving intel to the Taliban.

Those had to be positive decisions to do it in this manner.

And based on the article that was shared last Friday from here, those decisions started long before July.

Fox News senior strategic analyst and retired General Jack Keane said Monday that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan made a "stunning" admission on CNN when he said that terrorists in Afghanistan are looking to gain the ability to attack U.S. soil. Keane told "America's Newsroom" co-host Dana Perino that Sullivan "provided the justification" for why President Biden needs to leave a contingent of American troops in the country.

Yes.  But I've at least incorporated some aesthetically-minded architectural touches in mine, such as several graceful arches.  It's an archy bunker.

Mark Tapscott at Instapundit:  "Actually, rather than saying the war in Afghanistan is over, it would be more accurate to say the focus of operations has shifted, back to the U.S."

Haven't been around much.  Getting ready to head back out camping.  I could use a week away from all this and will luckily be in a dead zone (no cell signal) again.  It's kind of like a looking at a car wreck; it's horrible to see but I can't seem to tear my eyes away.  I don't think I've been this depressed since the towers came down.  Life has never really been the same since then, but this just seems to tear those wounds open again.  I'm am so afraid of what's in store for our country.

Or as was noted here a few days ago, the old anti-Vietnam war slogan of the Weathermen "We're bringing the war back home"

You don't have to be a Taliban to see which way Joe Biden bows. (to paraphrase the Dylan line that gave the Weathermen their name)

I just hope Biden's 911 photo-op only gets photo-bombed
