So one piece of news this morning is that there is agreement in the Senate to pass a bill to fund the government until December 3. I miss the old days when the government was funding for an entire year.

Chuck Schumer had an interesting argument about why he didn't want to do this in reconciliation

Democrats do have the option to raise the debt limit on their own using a process known as budget reconciliation, but Schumer has argued that route is too risky.

Schumer reiterated his warning on Wednesday that going down the path of using reconciliation is “very risky” and “could well lead us to default.” With Republicans strongly opposed to helping Democrats in any way to suspend the debt ceiling, it leaves in doubt how Congress will address the looming crisis in the next few weeks before the US would default on its debt.

“In solving this crisis, this body cannot and will not go through a drawn out unpredictable process sought by the minority leader. It risks the full faith and credit of the United States,” he said. “To do this through reconciliation requires ping ponging separate bills back from the Senate and the House. It’s uncharted waters. Individual senators could move to delay, delay and delay. It is very risky and could well lead us to default.”

So how is what Schumer wants to avoid any different from any other year? More things have been passed lately in reconciliation than haven't.

Good morning. Via insty:  here is an anti-Ron DeSantis ad that sounds more like a “move to Florida, immediately!” ad:

The gubmint counts you as a COVID case.

BTW, where I work, I'd have to quarantine or show a negative COVID test to be able to go in. HAVE to attest to no symptoms, and misrepresenting that would not be good.

Anyone heard about the new Muslim rock band that performs in face masks?  They're called "the Quran-Teens."

Just kidding.

They had to stop performing because their audiences were getting stoned, and I don't mean on pot.

I can work at home, too. Not on any projects that require me to go in.

And I only have to use the self-attestation app if I need to go in (and show the phone screen indicating I am cleared to enter to the guards.)

That just baffles me. Are there really that many people who want to live in a prison state?

But it is safe! No more of those nasty decision to make, no more risk from making a decision.

It is so warm and fuzzy and comforting.

Kids who were brought up by overprotective parents never learned to handle life on their own, so they want the government to take their parents' place.

Insty highlighted exactly this aspect of the ad; to us liberty-minded people, it initially looks like a pro-DeSantis ad, which parodically is sending up the hysteria-mongering Left.  But nope, apparently it's dead serious.

We no longer live in the same world they do.

For a long time, I've dismissed those at conservative blogs who declared that we are heading for a breakup of this nation, one way or another.  But I can no longer dismiss that idea.

We all live in the same world, but after being indoctrinated for years that there can be multiple "truths" and that everyone deserves stuff just for existing, and being told what the world is, without learning how to evaluate statements for accuracy, they think the world is not the way it is.

Also, all these kids who had their lives planned by their parents grew up comfortable being told what to do. So when the government tells them what to do, they are comfortable, but having to figure out things for themselves is frightening.

The latest spokesperson for the Iranian regime - Kamala Harris

An Iran state media outlet promoted a clip Thursday of Vice President Kamala Harris praising a student who had just accused the United States of funding Israel's "ethnic genocide" against Palestinians.

Press TV, an Iran-affiliated international outlet, tweeted out the exchange Harris had at Virginia's George Mason University Tuesday with a female student, who raised questions about U.S. monies provided to allies Israel and Saudi Arabia.

"I see that over the summer there have been, like, protests and demonstrations in astronomical numbers" about the Palestinian cause, the student said. She went on to note how "just a few days ago there were funds allocated to continue backing Israel, which hurts my heart because it's ethnic genocide and displacement of people, the same that happened in America, and I'm sure you're aware of this."

Harris said she was "glad" the student voiced her concerns.

"And again, this is about the fact that your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth, should not be suppressed and it must be heard, right? And one of the things we're fighting for in a democracy, right?" Harris said.
