Ugh. Sorry to hear that.

So the guns in the Baldwin shooting were left on a cart outside the building where filming was going on, due to COVID restrictions. Thus, the armorer and assistant director did not directly communicate whether any guns were "hot".

Baldwin wasn't playing around, but demonstrating/rehearsing a move he was about to film, that involved shooting.

Anyway, now that it is seen that the armorer did not get to directly indicate what gun was hot due to COVID restrictions, the government will now declare this a death due to COVID.

Biden's HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, pushing vaccines, has said that everybody should get a prick.

Biden's Assistant HHS Secretary "Rachel" Levine has advocated that people get rid of their pricks.

On the plus side, those 40 containers are in no danger from the fire...

Speaking of container ships; I re-watched at least a part of Captain Phillips last night.

I continue to be amazed and dismayed that the problem of Somali piracy wasn't resolved in about a week.  The Somali pirates are basically like a few foot soldiers trying to assault a castle; they're in flimsy skiffs that over no cover or concealment, bouncing around furiously in the wake of a massive ship.  In comparison, the ship's crew have high steel "walls" beneath them, and an abundance of steel cover and concealment around them.  One decent gunner with an M-60, and one decent spotter, it seems to me, could easily do the trick, without even having to place heavier weapons on those ships; hell, probably a good shooter with a scoped deer rifle could make the assault impossibly hazardous for the pirates.  (And that's without even looking at the other side of the coin, that is, reducing the pirate havens to smokng ruins.)

Yes, of course---but that would have been an example of "disproportionate response" + "white privilege."

Mini-guns.

Mini-guns solve lots of problems.

But yeah, someone who is a decent shot would make a difference.

But mini-guns would do it faster.....

FYI: MacOS 12, aka Monterey, dropped today. Mac users can choose to upgrade or shake in terror until they are force to update. And I'm half kidding, but I know how frustrating these updates can be.

I've actually found the transition to Windows 11 went smoothly. But that was on a new system without much installed.

Just got the system Dell sent to replace my broken one, so it is going to Win11 as well.

I did see minor glitches with Thunderbird, but got a quick reply on their forums. Turning off hardware acceleration fixed it. Might not have been a Win11 issue; could have been a problem with the specific display hardware.
