First Proclamation After Plymouth
"Inasmuch as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, beans, squashes, and garden vegetables, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and inasmuch as He has protected us from the ravages of the savages, has spared us from pestilence and disease, has granted us freedom to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience.

Now I, your magistrate, do proclaim that all ye Pilgrims, with your wives and ye little ones, do gather at ye meeting house, on ye hill, between the hours of 9 and 12 in the daytime, on Thursday, November 29th, of the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty three and the third year since ye Pilgrims landed on ye Pilgrim Rock, there to listen to ye pastor and render thanksgiving to ye Almighty God for all His blessings."

William Bradford
Ye Governor of Ye Colony

Happy Thanksgiving to all and may we all find something in our lives to be thankful for.  A special little thanks to Kosh for providing a home away from home for us all and to JCM for helping him.

Not sure what is causing the image element to be improperly terminated. In both cases.

Will try my own image to see

I love "the ravages of the savages" in the proclamation.

Didn't the Pilgrim colony initially try running itself on communist principles, with everything held in common, and come near to starving to death?  And isn't Thanksgiving actually their gratitude for the bounty they managed to create once they'd abandoned that experiment?

And, accordingly, shouldn't Thanksgiving and the celebration of it be concentrated on the rejection of communism?

My view this morning was white.  We had snow overnight.  Oh well, I guess the deer hunters will be happy; if they are lucky enough to get a shot, it's easier to track with snow.  My cat wasn't too happy though.

Happy happy Thanksgiving!

As some of you know, my real name has a very direct link to the First Thanksgiving.

It does indeed, though I never put it together before. Happy Thanksgiving,  Miles Standish.
