Good morning.

So, it seems the leftist SCOTUS "Justices"  did not exactly cover themselves in glory during Friday's oral arguments re: vaccine mandate.

I would concur with that assessment. Not being a lawyer, and not knowing what the acceptable protocol is at the Supreme Court, I have to ask: is it not possible for the lawyers present to make it clear that the stats and figures that the justices are sharing are wrong?

In COVID stat news: There is starting to be a trend to simply take a look at all-cause mortality (usually per capita) and look for the number of excess deaths, as opposed to trying to look at deaths in each age group and then try to separate it out into vaccinated or unvaccinated, as the data is very messy and a lot of people aren't going to be interested in looking at this.

el gato is one such stats person looking at this, and he's sharing data from other stats people. This type of data is much easier to share and explain, although people freak out a little at the term "excess mortality."

Well, these are oral arguments: so I'd say "yes"... but do it politely.

The only time I've attended SCOTUS oral arguments (while in law school, for a search & seizure case), one of the attorneys made the mistake of asking then-Chief Justice Rehnquist a slightly-heated rhetorical question during arguments, along the lines of, "but if the Court holds ABC, what will that mean for XYZ?!"

Rehnquist replied, in a voice that could freeze hot plasma: "I... don't... knowwww."

Estimate that the electric grid needs to grow 30% to support all those electric cars.

So California will require cars that don't exist, and won't be able to charge them anyway

In happier news: Rejoice!  Benchmade is having a sale.

(I ordered a Mini Bugout folder.)

I'm sure that will mesh beautifully with Gov. Hochul's planned mandates that a) all new New York construction, and b) all renovation of old New York buildings and apartments be made all-electric.

No natural gas, heavens no.  Fossil fuels need not apply.

I've heard we actually need 4 times the current capacity, or 400% growth.

CA needs 300 new power plants to handle that new demand.

Nationwide we would need 1500 new power plants.

There are no new power plants planned in CA.

And only a few nationwide.

I thought that there was some sort of "organic" source of power that the greenies were talking about, called "biomass."  Aren't those supposedly "power plants?"

There is a Peter Cook comedy bit in which he says he wanted to be a judge, but he couldn't pass the exam, so he became a coal miner, because the exam only involved writing his name.

At the end, he says when you get too old and stupid to be a coal miner, you have to retire. But not if you are a judge.

To be fair, the leftist justices were stupid when they were young, too.

It's the same with so many beliefs that leftist have, electric cars to covid..... The are beliefs... not knowledge.

As Reagan said, "they know so much that just isn't so."

You can do anything you want as long as you load 2 tons of coal a day.

2 tons?

How about 16 tons! (jukebox 1)

Of corned beef, rolled beef, and hot pastrami (jukebox 2)

Six Foot Space

—apologies to Tennessee Ernie Ford and “Sixteen Tons”

You keep six-foot space, what do yet?
A semi-assurance you’ve got no virus yet
St. Peter, don’t you call me, ‘cause I can’t go
I’ve got toilet paper on reserve at the store

I woke up one morning and the town was locked down
I walked out my front door and ambled around
I had to keep six feet away from everyone
So how’s a young fellow ‘sposed to have any fun?

You keep six-foot space, what do yet?
A semi-assurance you’ve got no virus yet
St. Peter, don’t you call me, ‘cause I can’t go
I’ve got toilet paper on reserve at the store

You meet folks on the street and you both do a dance
That’s what they call “observing social distance”
When you get home don’t dare to touch your hands to your eyes
Until you’re sure you’ve been thoroughly sanitized

You keep six-foot space, what do yet?
A semi-assurance you’ve got no virus yet
St. Peter, don’t you call me, ‘cause I can’t go
I’ve got toilet paper on reserve at the store

You can’t walk around unless you have a mask
You can’t work unless you have an essential task
You just have to hunker down and shelter in place
And try to recall what it’s like seeing a face

You keep six-foot space, what do yet?
A semi-assurance you’ve got no virus yet
St. Peter, don’t you call me, ‘cause I can’t go
I’ve got toilet paper on reserve at the store

You can’t go to a restaurant to eat some food
Can’t go to the park or to the beach if you're in the mood
Try to go to a church, they’ll hit you with a fine
So just stay at home and order online

You keep six-foot space, what do yet?
A semi-assurance you’ve got no virus yet
St. Peter, don’t you call me, ‘cause I can’t go
I’ve got toilet paper on reserve at the store

Sorry, that should be "...you get..." instead of "do yet?".   Typos, you know.
