Good morning. Testing, testing. I cannot access the site from my work computer at the moment. But iPhone seems to work.

Okay, and we're in, on 'puter as well.

So, seeing as I tend to take along my concealed carry pistol (P365) for my morning stroll, it occurs to me that I... woke up this morning; and got myself a gun.

I hope we don't go on-on about "hash" puns...

How about just a few puns that are only hash-ish?

The NYC media are going on and on about the "challenges to new Mayor Eric Adams" because of the anti-cop violence over the weekend, the murder of the Chinese woman in the subway, the Bronx apartment-house fire, and the shooting of a baby in the Bronx.

Completely absent from all of this is any mention whatever of the responsibility of the deBlasio administration over the last 8 years, with its defunding/demoralizing of the police, its disbanding of police task forces, its failure to prosecute/incarcerate criminals, its inability to deal with the homeless/drug addict/lunatic issues, and its incapable "enforcement" of the housing codes.

Oh, no. It's all on the guy who's been in office less than a month.

A comment just posted at Insty has a very apt metaphor, IMHO, responding to a New York post column about how the new Mayor will have to clean everything up:

It's always fun to read NYC columnists that think their city doesn't actively want to stab itself in the neck.

Someone that cuts themselves regularly and only screams for help when they are near death...only to go back to cutting themselves after recovery...does that sound healthy to anyone?”

No, this is not to endorse the idea so often found on conservative sites that every single resident of New York City “deserves“ this. But as a voting bloc? I can’t argue that the metaphor isn’t on-point. Same is true here in DC.

That's a pretty decent way to put it. And it applies in many ways across all the DDDemocratic cities and states across the country.

Morning, gang.

The last time before her death Mom had a chance to vote, she was inveighing against the corruption and incompetence of the various candidates she was considering---all Democrats, of course.  I suggested to her that maybe she should consider voting Republican for once; she responded with shock and horror at the very suggestion.  Of course, the likelihood that a Republican would get elected in her corner of Cook County was likely somewhere between zero and nil, but I tried to get across to her that even if the Republican were elected and turned out to be just as corrupt and incompetent as the Democrat, at least her troubles would have variety.

Yes. I have seen very few stories about what is going on with the January 6 committee. Serious kudos to Greenwald for writing up this story.

Astounding, we don't have any limits on law enforcement.

Actually it's called the Constitution and you have no authority for law enforcement at all.

So take your damn star chamber and shove it dems.

Most Progs are in favor of this; as long as it's us, the Bad Guys, at the receiving end of it.

Most conservatives don't want to believe it's actually happening.

So, this is a personal/political matter I've mentioned here as well; but in this Insty thread, I've laid out some thoughts and experiences on the question of "can we be friends with liberals again".   (Search for Occasoinal Reader, there's a long-ish mini-thread initiated by one of my comments.)  Youses' thoughts and experiences are very welcome.

This person is a leftist, not a true classic liberal. Liberals are an endangered species nowadays. Leftism is a religion, and they have swallowed the cool-aid (deliberate - they want to be with the "cool" crowd). True liberals can think and agree to disagree. Glen Greenwald, Alan Dershowitz are classic liberals. And note that Dershowitz has lost friends because he defended Trump, not that he likes Trump, but that Trump deserves Constitutional rights and protections.

Back when Romney was challenging Obama, an old college-roommate friend (writer of "unauthorized biographies" of the famous, and putatively-historical tomes of questionably veracity) broke off with me because I thought Romney might just possibly be a less-feckless president than the Lightworker.  We've not spoken since.

"Libertarians" are the "transgenders" of politics.   They identify as "conservatives," but they keep their Leftist junk.

The libertarians I know are of the "keep government out of my life" type. I had a boss like that, too. My old roommate likes Ayn Rand, although I find her work a sort of conservative version of the hippie do your own thing. Conservatives realize there needs to be a balance between society and the individual. However, this is still something we can discuss.

The previous boss, however, as well as we got along, I still wonder when he wanted to name his pit bull "Hitler" (but didn't) and put out traps to kill chipmunks. As for the latter, as long as they don't sing, they're cute and OK with me. BTW, he grew up in Hungary under communism, which is why he went so far right. His father was the engineering manager in a slaughterhouse, and he found it interesting that once a month or so, on a Sunday, a rabbi/shochet would come, clean the place, and perform kosher slaughter - in a building that often was used to slaughter pigs. I don't think he had a problem with Jews, but was somewhat too far right. Fun though with the other NPR-listening co-workers.
