Wow--so they really can see real life around them? Great news, but I would have thought it would have leached through the dogma years ago. Still, good to see they are learning.

Looks like Carter is in the rear view mirror now; we're on our way to which leader's style next? Mao? Stalin? ////I so wish

So; there's a group of people, mostly retirees, I tend to run into at my local Starbucks.  All (with one or two exceptions) are nice folks; but all are deep-blue DCists.   But I do usually sit down with them and have a coffee, and they're always very nice to my son when he's with me.

So, this morning as I sat with them, one of them brought up "hahaha Marjorie Taylor Greene saying 'gazpacho police'."   They all had a good laugh about that.  Marjorie Taylor Greene! "Gazpacho Police!".

I said:  Sure, it was a funny gaffe.  But the issue she's referring to is a real one, isn't it?  I've never heard of the Capitol Police going into the office of a congressional representative, the "opposition party"; interrogating staffers, and taking photos of the office and documents.  This is concerning.  This sounds like the kind of thing that happens in banana republics.

Silence... and then, a few of them nodded, and agreed.

Even a little pushback can help.  Maybe.

The people who dismiss Jordan Peterson have usually never listened to him. People have lost the ability to listen to opposing viewpoints and learn from them. You may or may not change your mind, but it will help you to refine and defend your own opinions.

Gazpacho police? Is that what the Soup Nazi uses?

I am chilled by the idea of Gazpacho Police.  (Or their equivalent in Vichy France, who were of course the Vichysoisse.)

Same was true of the people who used to sneer at Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh made a lot of valid points; but he was never my style.

Regarding the friend I was referring to in last night's post; I don't think he ever would have considered listening to Limbaugh.  But Jordan Peterson gets through to him.

Rush was tough to swallow, because what he intended as joking was interpreted as bragging, and it rubbed some people the wrong way. I didn't like listening to him, but I read his book and learned enough there to realize what he was trying to tell everyone--in a way that wasn't designed to entertain but to teach. As he got older I believe he toned down his show, and then it was easier for me to listen to.

Or Joe Rogan. What I find interesting about the left's campaign to silence "misinformation" is the assumption that people will believe whatever they're told. But that's precisely what they rely on to brainwash influence their followers. Gender ideology is a good example. Men can be women because shut up racist. People on the right are much more skeptical of most things and expect to be persuaded by facts and evidence.  Conservatives aren't against change - they just want to be sure the change is necessary and positive.

The left repeatedly tried to get Rush "canceled" literally a few times.

The best ws Harry Reid's letter to the broadcasters over Sandra Fluck.

Rush sold the letter for a million dollars with the money going to a military families charity.

But....

... don't let them distract us.  What MTG was referencing is a VERY serious problem.

I know I know.

I heard the clip, I think it was intentional on MTG part, trying to be too cute by half.

She didn't say Gestapo, therefore didn't call them Nazis.... technically. But she did get the point across.

Heh.

A lot of people online these days also seem to have Dead Souls; referencing, of course, the Russian author Nikolai Google.

By the way...I am in no way advocating violent responses of any kind towards the recent, current, and ongoing examples of government overreach and malfeasance.

However, I find it amusing, and instructive, to note that with the advent of such overreach and malfeasance, the chorus of "We haz gunz" gasbags that used to infest numerous "conservative" sites has fallen remarkably silent.

That is not my own (entirely subjective) impression, at least thinking of Instapundit.

We have exhaust every Constitutional, Legal means at our disposal, before politics by other means is justified.

We also have to be as clear in grievances as the Founders in the Declaration of Independence. Not the muddle morass of ideas we have now.

There is a video on LinkedIn. The Ottawa Police Chief threatened to arrest anyone bringing fuel to the truckers.
Video shows hundreds of people bring fuel cans.

We have a complicated network setup at home. Netgear DSL modem/router was getting poor DSL performance, so Verizon sent me an Actiontec one free. It did have a noticeable DSL improvement (2.5 Mbps to 3) but internal data transfers (nightly backups) went from 30 min per backup to 2-4 hours, so I set the Netgear as an access point only. Yesterday, it crashed 3 times. Couldn't handle a Zoom and a Microsoft Teams meeting simultaneously. Ordered a new one (TPLink AC4000) and it is always a pain to get a router working in access point mode, as you have to find its new IP address. Set up and we'll see how it works.
