That is a feature not a bug. Allow crime to run rampant, disarm the law abiding, at some point people will agree to a police state in exchange for safety and security.

2 wounded Whatcom County deputies on the mend as neighbors praised for coming to their aid

Sheriff Bill Elfo and Undersheriff Doug Chadwick praised other neighbors for stepping in to help the deputies after they were shot.

At least three people, some of them armed, began firing back at Young, allowing the deputies to retreat to safety.

“We’re thankful they were there and that they were willing to leave the protection of their own homes, put their own safety at risk to help see a fellow human being in need,” Chadwick said. “We’re thankful those citizens stepped up and helped fill that gap and that time until other deputies were able to arrive on scene.”

I wondered about this the other day.  I wish one of them would stop by and let us know what it really looks like on the other side of the border.  The "right" side news stations say things are going great!  The msm is saying the protest has been shut down.  The msm doesn't seem to be saying much about the protests in Israel, France and Germany, among other places though.  It would be nice to hear from real people actually there.
