I can't say I'm much of a waffle person. Pancakes are more my speed--but that could be because the waffle iron we had when I was growing up was about a century old and everything stuck to it.

Howdy.  So I left a question near the end of the Frontier last night.  Input appreciated.

Totally random question that occurred to me: did we, as a society, at least the English-speaking world, ever decide how to refer to the first decade of the 2000s? I don’t feel like we did.

But have you consistently heard/read of people calling it that?  Me, I can't say that I have.  I find this curious. (Or maybe I'm just out to lunch,)

I remember seeing the suggestion "The Naughty Oughties'", but I don't think it took.

Though ought it not be the "aughts"?

The focus has been to label this as the 21st century, to make it sound new and futuristic.

Obviously Putin is trying to start a nuclear war so that the nuclear winter will counteract global warming./

Anyone planning to watch the State of the Union address tonight?

I'd need enough alcohol to be in a coma

Someone must be; not I.

Not having a TV is a great excuse, though I'm sure I could find it streaming somewhere were I to look.

Meanwhile, can someone explain to me why so many commenters on other blogs---WZ, PJM, Insty---seem to be, if not exactly pro-Putin, oddly unsympathetic to the Ukrainians.   I grant you that the Ukrainians have a history of being antisemitic bastards, but that's really not at issue at the moment, and wouldn't be even if Zelensky (sp?) weren't a Jew.  I can understand people not wanting to get involved in a tussle with Russia when we've got no small emergency with our own borders, but that is invoked far less that one would expect, and is all but drowned out in the "screw the Ukrainians" mumbling.

At the same time, the Left---certainly a lot of the Left-leaning artists I see posting on Facebook---are all drawing sunflowers and sticking Ukrainian flags on their pictures, and somehow contriving to suggest, intermittently, that Trump is somehow collaborating with Putin.

It's confusing.

A very good question. Of course, the Russians also are usually a bunch of Jew-hating bastards, too. (Putin is the exception, although he is certainly an asshole)

Both sides point the Jew-hatred finger at the other, and they are actually both correct, although the President of Ukraine is a Jew.
