It's quiet... TOO quiet.

So, here's something.

Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the capture of Abimael Guzmán, leader of Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path), in Lima, Peru.  I'm not a big fan of Twitter thread postings, but this one is quite interesting, in terms of explaining how he was found.

So everything's signed but no money has yet changed hands. I'm kind of worried my bank dropped the ball on my transfer request - it was supposed to go out tomorrow but nothing's happened.

Yes, interesting and nice to see the old-school methods working. The FBI should study this as a textbook case of how to gather information on a suspect. They might learn something.

I do hope the papers included an acknowledgement that the house sits on land that was stolen from Elizabeth Warren's ancestors...

Anyway, congratulations.

Okay, for some odd reason, the earworm I have doing loops around in my head today is the song "Throw The Jew Down The Well",  from the Borat movie.

I'm... not sure what that means...

Heh.

Actually, I think it was prompted by a thread on Insty recently, linked to a story about the discovery of medieval pogrom victims at the bottom of a well in.... England, I think.

And this is why Queen Elizabeth was vilified after her death. Rightly so.

But Gorbachev was a saint, and both he, and the system he defended, were above reproach.

I have to find the article contrasting the NY Pravda coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth and Stalin. Guess who was praised and who was criticized.

Here is the article

The New York Times decided to cover Queen Elizabeth’s death by running an anti-obituary, claiming that “the queen helped obscure a bloody history of decolonization whose proportions and legacies have yet to be adequately acknowledged,”

And how did they cover Stalin's obituay?

It praises him, claiming falsely, that, “only a man of iron will and determination like Stalin’s could have held together his shattered country during that period of the war when German armies had overrun huge portions of Russian territory and swept to the gates of Moscow, Leningrad and the Caucasus. Like Churchill in England, Stalin never faltered, not even at moments when everything seemed lost.”

There is no mention of the larger cycle of repression and mass murder in the USSR.
