I know those blackberries are supposed to be spiders, but with those googly eyes, they look more like sheep to me. They're adorable.

Lest we forget, Halloween used to be the Gay National Holiday, because it was the one day in the year when one could not be arrested for dressing in drag.

As a result, it became traditional in the homosexual community to hold Halloween drag balls---drag fashion shows featuring performances by contestants, and awards for gowns and costumes.  These were generally formal affairs, with the escorts of the contestants in black tie.

Despite such drag balls having been common at least through the 1970s, this tradition is now largely forgotten today, even among "gay activists"---though for all I know, they may still continue on or about Halloween even today.

In recognition of this historical footnote, I offer a Jukebox of the classic 1920s song "Masculine Women/Feminine Men."

They don’t have the super-gay Halloween Parade in the Village any more?

Sure they do---but the formal drag balls were something else.  It's probable that they've gone out of style simply because the need for them disappeared; aside from the fact that people don't do formal events as much as they used to, every day is Halloween for a lot of people nowadays.

some nitpicks there, for instance Pelosi does not get Secret Service protection, but does got capital police protection.

But yes, the whole story stinks.

Today’s top headline at “China daily” (print esition)

” Harmony vital on path toward modernization“

it wasn’t so long ago that this rag at least pretended to be a real newspaper. Now it is pure neo-Maoism.

And, again: If, ten years ago, you’d have told me that one day I’d be applauding Glenn Greenwald…

If I had a hammer
I'd hammer on Pelosi
I'd hammer on her husband
All over this land...
