In the light of all the deepfake abilities we have now with video and audio, I'm just about ready to say I only believe what I see in person with my own eyes. And even then I know magicians will fool me.

No, but given that what you wrote suggested that Seymour Hersch couldn't be trusted because of his "anonymous source", it's becoming reasonable to not trust anything, even if we have audio or video, because of deepfakes.

Deepfakes can be tested, and cross-checked against other sources.   Anonymous sources making outlandish claims, that's another kettle of horses of a different color.  And among other things, as an Insty poster pointed out; Hersh is claiming that the charges were set during a military exercise in June, and then detonated in September.  This seems... unlikely, due to the risk of corrosion, leaks, accidents, and just plain discovery.
