Today's story I don't believe: U.S. Marshal Service Hit With ‘Major’ Security Breach

In a statement Monday, U.S. Marshals Service spokesperson Drew Wade acknowledged the breach, telling NBC News: “The affected system contains law enforcement sensitive information, including returns from legal process, administrative information, and personally identifiable information pertaining to subjects of USMS investigations, third parties, and certain USMS employees.”
Wade said the incident occurred Feb. 17, when the Marshals Service "discovered a ransomware and data exfiltration event affecting a stand-alone USMS system."
The system was disconnected from the network, and the Justice Department began a forensic investigation, Wade said.

(emphasis mine)

What do they mean when they say "stand-alone"? I can interpret that several ways. It definitely doesn't mean disconnected from the network (see the next sentence), so it was able to reach out to other machines on the network and wasn't isolated. Therefore it could have potentially infected other machines already and might already be installed. Given the propensity of this administration to lie at the drop of a hat, I don't believe it.

And it's a backup generator, of course; because she knows that her own policies and those of her party are destroying the reliability of the electrical grid. Just perfect.

If NSA can't keep Snowdow from downloading to USB drives. I doubt the IPSec at USMS could keep a toddler from installing Minecraft and playing with friends all over the world.

Oh, I doubt the room was anything like that. Probably more like this.

Right? I don't doubt that the governor's machine should at least have some backup for electricity in case of natural disaster, but what she installed was gold plated, it seemed.

It wouldn't surprise me at all (just don't ask me how I know this) if someone saw this computer sitting alone in a room and thought it would be a good place to put some personal software. Maybe not Minecraft, but perhaps a digital coin miner.

My corp laptop I can't use USB storage devices. I have to get IPSec to authorize their use. We have tons of secure storage of various kinds. Plug in a storage device and it's blocked and IPSec gets a notification.

We're nowhere near that secure, but in our case we don't need to be.

So I see the Moron Brigade on the right-web is getting riled up by a deepfake video of Biden announcing he's reinstating the draft.

Sheesh.

Should make the deepfake saying the draft is equitable, all 57 genders will be drafted.
