Happy Thursday, campers, and welcome to the heat in the Midwest.

In today's leading news: the House passed a bill that suspends the debt ceiling until January 1, 2025. How damnably convenient for them. I'm pretty sure the Senate will go along with this, and many people are going to tar McCarthy with every epithet they can think of.

Biden Sex Assault Accuser Tara Reade Flees to ‘Safety’ in Russia

Does she really think she's going to see that much attention from the spooks? And is Russia really the best place to go for safety? Snowden had a much better case for leaving the country after revealing a bunch of secrets. Reade has one, and it isn't a secret.

I really wish he'd just retire.  Unfortunately, at this point, he's the GOP frontrunner.   I'll still vote for him over Biden in a heartbeat, but...

I did not like Trump, initially.  I thought he was a bombastic, fatmouthed, grandstanding boob---yet, I voted for him over the alternative.

He did a number of good things while president---but he also (in addition to being sabotaged by his more-experienced opponents) continually undercut himself, both with his addiction to bombast and his willingness---despite his "you're fired" reality-TV reputation---to hire and appoint people unworthy of his trust and support.

I give him credit for not having become totally deranged by the post-2020 persecutions he has had to defend himself against, and I wish him well.  But I think it is time for him to have the grace to shut up, step back, and throw his support behind someone who understands the levers of government better than he ever did.

So far the Trump campaign is everything I dislike about Trump.

But yes he'll have my vote over Biden any day of the week.

If DeSantis would hire the same guys who ran the policies that Trump used, I could see throwing my vote for DeSantis. But given what Sundance is reporting about DeSantis' plans to run for president since 2021 and the weird moves he seems to be making, I'm not expecting DeSantis to actually be interested in pursuing a MAGA strategy of domestic oil, gas, and manufacturing. I would love to be wrong.

Trump doesn't help himself at all by talking about how his method was better than DeSantis' during the 2020 covidiocy

OK, this is not political---but it seems to fit the current political mood.

This story reminds me of an old (and prescient) story by Arthur C. Clarke (I think - maybe Asimov, but I'm pretty sure it was Clarke), in which a computer is tasked with rewriting the works of Shakespeare. The computer rewrites the line from Hamlet's soliloquy, "to take arms against sea of troubles", as "to take arms against a host of troubles"; because the original is a mixed metaphor.

I want a nuclear submarine. With ballistic missiles.
