Good morning, campers. I hope all the fathers here had excellent days yesterday with their families. We did nothing, and that was okay by us.

The first story I read today suggested that InBev is intentionally trying to cut down Anheiser-Busch and that is why they made the deal with Dylan Mulvaney. A former employee (who very well could be disgruntled, so big piece of salt here) suggests the company has radically changed since InBev bought it and now this employee thinks they are trying to renegotiate contracts, reduce staff, and other cost-cutting measures.

If AB had to be bought out, that suggests they already had financial problems. So the way to fix that is….with creating even bigger problems? It’s just a very odd story.

The news about tapes of Biden’s negotiating for bribes seems to be all over conservative news. The question now is, when will it break through to the MSM—or will it? CNN has had stories, but considering how low their viewership is, do they still count as MSM?

I mean, when someone has to say, “I’m an honest man,” everyone knows that is a tell that the speaker isn’t, right?

Last question of the day: Did people realize that Sam Brinton, Biden’s former nuclear specialist turned ladies fashion luggage stealer, is a member of the Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, those draggy nuns that the LA Dodgers decided to support at a game?

And of all the people that could have had that government job, he just happened to get it? Mmmm, I don’t think so.

And they are opening themselves to shareholder lawsuits.

Well, that tells you who is running this administration: (in my best SNL Church Lady voice)

Satan!

I have Juneteenth off. My contract agency doesn't include it, but where I work is closed, so I have to use a vacation day.

Same for July 3, since July 4 is a Tuesday.

They could do that without some plot with a whackadoodle. I've been through a few mergers, they always re-org, eliminate redundant positions.

That dog don't hunt.

I had a pretty good Father's Day.  Out helping my betrothed pack in preparation for her move the end of the week.  Having packed up an moved mom's two places and my own house, this is my fourth move in 17 months so I'm pretty good at it by now.

My Father's Day involved a lot of mowing, as it was the first dry day for a while.

Juneteenth meanderings:

The first time I ever heard of "Juneteenth"---and had no idea what it was---was when I heard Louis Jordan's 1940 record, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVw1gmLQvYY

I subsequently learned the history/story of Juneteenth, which brought me to "The Yellow Rose of Texas," because there is a stand of cactus in front of a brownstone in my neighborhood which blossoms into yellow "cactus roses" right around Juneteenth.  It is in full flower now.

"The Yellow Rose of Texas" has an interesting history.  It is a "darkie song" introduced in the 1850s by "Christy's Minstrels," a blackface minstrel troup.  The song was allegedly, a song favored by Confederate soldiers from Texas during the Civil War.  It is a song in which a (blackfaced) "darkie" sings the praises of his "high-yaller" girl.

For those who remember the "folk revival" of the 1960s, it is interesting that there was a then-popular group called "The New Christy Minstrels" which was a major part of that revival, given that the original "Christy Minstrels" were a blackface minstrel show.  Perhaps the idea was to show that the "New" Christy Minstrels were not as racist as the "old" ones.

Interestingly, the creator of the "Christy Minstrels," Edwin Pierce Christy, is buried in Green-Wood Cemetery here in Brooklyn---a few blocks from where I now live, and about equidistant from the stand of yellow "cactus roses" I mention above.

The yellow "cactus rose" plays a part in the classic Western film "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance."  Vera Miles, the female lead in that film, is initially in love with, and intends to marry, John Wayne, around whose home the cactus roses bloom the best.  When Miles comes to believe that James Stewart is the "man who shot Liberty Valance," she drops John Wayne and marries Stewart---and at the end she leaves a blooming cactus rose on Wayne's coffin.

I grilled steak and corn on the cob... in the rain for Fathers day.

Food was eaten inside and very good.

En route to Hahhvahhd at the moment.

A thing I notice when observing billboards and TV in airports; arriving visitors from other countries with no knowledge of the US would be forgiven for assuming the country is about 60% black.

ENGLAND (TND) — A 13-year-old girl was reportedly called "despicable" by her own teacher on Friday after she began questioning how her classmate could identify as a cat at a Church of England school.

The young student, along with another classmate, were both admonished by their teacher at Rye College in England following a heated discussion during an eighth-grade "life-education" class according to The Telegraph.

The report adds that the two students were told by the teacher that their behavior was being reported to administrators and that the two may possibly not be welcome back at the educational institution if they continued to insist only two genders exist.

I can confidently say a teacher like this would gladly load these kids o railroad cars...

Titanic tourist submersible goes missing with search under way

A submersible craft used to take people to see the wreck of the Titanic has been missing in the Atlantic Ocean with its crew on board since Sunday, sparking a major search and rescue.

Contact with the submersible was lost about one hour and 45 minutes into the vessel's dive, the US coast guard said.

...

On Monday, Rear Adm John Mauger of the US Coast Guard told a news conference: "We anticipate there is somewhere between 70 and the full 96 hours available at this point."

Depending on the problem, there might not be anything that can rescue them. If the sub got to the bottom and was caught on something, another sub might be able to release it, but of the first one is out of power, lost compressed air to surface, or any one of many other problems, I think there is nothing that can lift it and no way to transfer the people to another sub,

Ordering a replacement AC for our downstairs. Old 12000 BTU is 25 years old; didn't want to turn on last year, but eventually did. Not now, and it is so old I figure we'd better replace it before the Bye,den administration bans them.

In constant dollars, the new one is around the same price, which means I doubt it will last 25 years.

This time, buying from a local place that installs it; way too big for one person.

This cools most of the downstairs, and we use a fan to direct air into the kitchen when needed.

(So who else agrees that the Bye, den administration's goal is to make us all dependent on the government so we keep them in power?)

And remember, in 2024, the object of two minutes hate is Donald Trump.

BTW, the US Navy DSRV (Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle) program was nothing but a cover for spy subs. Most of the ocean our boats operate in is deeper than crush depth.
