A solid presentation on the Fukushima water discharge plan. The conclusion reached are basically the same conclusion I reached. With added information and context.

I have found Kyle Hill to be the best presenter on nuclear issues, solid science based, without hyperbole or hysteria and calls out real dangers with solid fact based reasoning.

There's a meltdown going on in Georgia over the fact that the same grand jury that indicted Trump has now turned around and indicted a group called Stop Cop City, hitting them with RICO charges. Activists are outraged (when are they not?) and see this as blatantly political, whereas the Trump indictment is pure as snow.

Some of the usual vitriol is found in quotes from those who agree with the activists, but a few good posts in it.

As opposed to this

On Nov. 30, 2022, [the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy] did something rather unscientific: It issued a memo directing more than two dozen federal agencies to apply "Indigenous Knowledge" to "research, policies, and decision making." The 42-page document encourages the agencies to speak with "spiritual leaders" and reject "methodological dogma" when crafting policy as a way to remedy injustices against Native peoples.

Federal regulators are to consider the folk wisdom of the Comanche Nation, for instance, just as they consider lab results when trying to determine the pH level of rain. Long relegated to university campuses and fringe activist groups, the idea that Native people have a privileged understanding of the physical and metaphysical world is now the official view of the United States government.

Oy.

I think it's a CYA move to make the Trump indictments look legit.

I keep seeing that claim; I'm a little skeptical that it was "the same" grand jury.

I would think that for at least the Trump matter, they'd have convened a special grand jury, particularly for that case.

And note, FOIA will not apply:

Records obtained by the nonprofit organization Liberty Unyieldingshow that the United South and Eastern Tribes Sovereignty Protection Fund asked senior Biden administration officials to shield any Indigenous Knowledge from public access through mechanisms like Freedom of Information Act requests or "from being shared on publicly available maps, guides, or other online tools/databases."

Speaking during the March 2022 EPA webinar, Demarus Tevuk, a self-described "Native American community outreach consultant," said that "knowledge is community-owned and if you are asking a traditional knowledge holder for information, you have to prove your right to access that information."

Maybe, but why go after their own, in that case?

Why go after their own?  To show they're even-handed, and that the Trump indictments are therefore "not political."

And, lest we forget, a mere indictment does not mean these defendants will be found guilty, nor that, if they are, they will receive appropriate sentences---but the distraction of the indictment will have accomplished its purpose.

Absolutely.

if these terrorists receive more than a slap on the wrist, I'll be surprised.

RICO should be enhanced with complimentary legislation, which I'm calling the Special Uniform Act for Violent Extremism. That way, thugs like Antifa could face RICO SUAVE charges.

Hmm. Yes. All actions are taken so the media can put out the right talking points, and then everything disappears after the fact.

Damn.

I harken back to Whittle's Tribes essay.... there the Pink Tribe and the Gray Tribe...

Isn't that what the Titan submersible was tested with? The carbon fiber frame had been reviewed by experts who pointed out flaws, and the owner of the company ignored them.

So many things with that.... that when I saw it alarmed me. As soon as it went missing I looked at it and a bunch of things just didn't look right.

Carbon fiber cylinder, every deep submersible is a sphere. titanium to carbon interface on the end caps, the window....

Of all the mendicants that come to our shores
There are some that I would never ignore
They may not be officially friends
But they'll be, when my wallet distends

I'm a colluder!
And I'll help anyone who gives cash to me
I'm a colluder!
And I'm not what I appear to be...

One article I read, from "Composites World", said a carbon-fiber submersible probably could be built safely - but that Stockton Rush refused to consult with the experts that could have helped him do so.

I remember articles that claimed Africans had great magic, including magical flying machines, but somehow people without the magic won. They actually believe that. If the magic was so great, how did they lose? Kryptonite?

I don't doubt a composite deep submersible is possible. They do spherical composite pressure vessels all the time, so a compression vessel is feasible. I have question about a cylinder for those depths, and mixture of materials, any joint in that type of use case is a huge problem.

Agreed. Stockton Rush thought he was smarter than everyone else, but no one knows everything, not even me. And I would have consulted with experts.

And I agree that the interface between the cylinder and the titanium end pieces would likely be a problem. One simulation states that the fact the porthole was not found indicates that a likely place for the failure was just the interface between the hull and end caps.
