Chuck Schumer, the Highest-Ranking Shoemaker Ever

The Schumer/shomer/guardian bit is one Sen. Schumer has used for years. A good example is back in 2015, when he told an audience “You know, my name comes from the word shomer: guardian, watcher.”

Nice story, but it is—to say the least—unproven. Oxford Reference gives this explanation: “North German (Schümer): nickname from Middle Low German schumer ‘good-for-nothing’, ‘vagabond’. ...” The iGENEA website says, “The last name Schumer is of Jewish-German origin. It is derived from the Middle High German term ‘schuoch wurhte’, which translates to ‘shoemaker’. Therefore, like many surnames that date back to the Middle Ages, Schumer is an occupational surname, representing the profession of the family’s original bearer. So, someone with the name Schumer might have had ancestors who were shoemakers.” House of Names also says Schumer means “cobbler.” Better a cobbler than good-for-nothing, I suppose.

I think he is just a good-for-nothing.

So...does Schumer's name having originated with a shoemaking ancestor explain why he acts like such a heel?

Something glaringly, noticeably absent from the breathless reports on NPR and the BBC about the "container ship" that collided with, and destroyed, the Francis Scot Key Bridge in Baltimore early this morning, is: What was the ship carrying?  Who owned the ship (company, and country of registry)?

Is there any possibility that this was a terrorist attack?  How different is usuing a commercial ship to destroy an essential bridge from using hijacked airliners to destroy major buildings?

Landowners should be able to remove squatters. By any means to accomplish the task.

Just going off US average the home, not counting interest represents 10 years of the owners labor. 10 years of their life.

Giving squatters any rights is obscene.

It could have been a lot worse, of course; had this happened at peak rush hour instead of 1:30 am.

Still, it's just surreal.

I don't know about 'by any means'.

In a sane system, the landowner would call the cops, show proof of ownership, the cops would swiftly and efficiently remove the squatters.  But that's not the system the crazy Left wants.

I know, I know.

I'm just feed up.

I'm not playing the Nazi card because I'm out of arguments. I'm just looking at the parellels between what happened then and now.
Germany has a republic after the war, a broken dysfunctional one to be sure. Hitler creates the Nazi party, and the brownshirts to wreak havoc.

Germany turns to Hitler for safety and security.

The ship involved was named the Dali.  Maybe the accident was caused by the clock on the bridge melting?

This morning, BBC World had their own talking head gravely intoning about how the Gazas were all starving to death. Then, they went to a live link with some Palestinian aid worker in Rafah. But the lady kept going off script. Rather than agreeing that everyone was starving, she kept complaining that there wasn't enough "fresh, healthy" food, and that people were having to eat canned food instead. Quelle horreur! And she then went on to complain that Gazans were having trouble "affording" the canned food, because... their jobs had been disrupted by "the war". Boo freaking hoo. So don't start wars. I think BBC will have to screen their "on the scene" parrots a little better from now on.
